Most Readers Don't Watch Much TV
Are your kids readers? Are you a reader?
What parent doesn't want their kids to read?
Most kids who do well in school are readers. They don't watch a lot of TV.
Are you serious in changing your child's reading habits?
Creating a habit takes time. Most habits take 21 days to create.
Let's take a little test.
Parents, are you and your kids addicted to TV?
I want you to turn-off the TV tonight. Write down the reactions you get. Hey, better yet, tomorrow night hide the remote control. See what happens. Priceless!
Seriously, you owe it to yourself and your kids to limit or eliminate TV watching all together.
Research has shown that kids who watch too much TV do worse in school when compared to kids who read at home.

Parenting isn't easy. I know. If you start today it will be easier tomorrow.
"Empowering people to take control of technology and not letting technology take control of them so they can live healthier lives." -http://www.tvturnoff.org
"I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book." -Groucho Marx
"American children and adolescents spend 22 to 28 hours per week viewing television, more than any other activity except sleeping. By the age of 70 they will have spent 7 to 10 years of their lives watching TV."
-- The Kaiser Family Foundation
Parents please monitor what your kids watch. A TV is not a baby-sitter and not a means for peace and quiet.
Get your kids outside to make their own discoveries.
If Parents don't do something at a grass roots level, the major networks will continue to push the decency envelope to compete with cable.
Create different family activities during the week:
Carpet Picnic-Eat on a plastic table cloth in the living room with paper plates.
Movie Night-Get some pillows and blankets. Watch any favorite.
Reading Night-Take turns reading together.
Game Night- Chess, checkers, Uno, Scrabble, Monopoly, Cranium etc.
Art Night- Finger paint with jello and water mix. Be creative.
Cookies and milk night-Bake some cookies together.
Music- Dance to the oldies
Sports Night
Are you up for the challenge? We owe it to our kids to be different. Society wants us to be the same. Break the mold today!

A Must See Video!
The love of books.
Bill Geist visits a Bookstore made from a Manure Tank
CBS Sunday Morning's offbeat correspondent Bill Geist visits a very unusual bookstore near Princeton, Wisconsin. Lenore & Lloyd Dickmans' bookstore is set on a farm, and the books take up 12 buildings, one of which was built from a slurry tank that once brimmed with cow manure. They are voracious book-collectors, and my family has sold books to them before at the Princeton Flea Market in central Wisconsin.

Lens for Parents and Kids
- Monarch Butterflies
- My family lives in the country. And we love raising Monarch Butterflies. It's really quite easy to raise them at home. We've got milkweed growing in our butterfly garden in our backyard. I just took some old milkweed pods in the fall and threw them on the ground. The next spring I had my own milkweed.
- Model Trains-A Beginner's Guide
- My family loves the Polar Express movie. After watching this classic, I wanted to be a real live train conductor. The only problem was where to put a locomotive that big. So, we did the next best thing, we explored the world of Model Trains.
- Morel Mushrooms
- There is nothing better than tromping through the woods with my family hunting for the elusive Morel Mushroom. It gives us time to teach our kids about nature and the appreciation for the smells and wildlife we encounter. Click on the sites below to discover numerous recipes, stories, and tips.
- Disney Pin Trading
- My 9 year old daughter, Beka, loves Disney World and Disney Pins. And so do I. We actually got into Disney pin trading by accident during our trip to the Magic Kingdom. While shopping, we noticed a cast member with a Disney lanyard and Disney pins. We asked her about her intriguing Disney pins.
- Maple Syrup
- Did you know you could make Maple Syrup right in your backyard? When the night temperatures dip into the 20's and the day temperatures soar into the 40's, the Maple tree sap starts running. Maple tree sap is collected through February, March and April.
