iDJ2 - Features
The Numark iDJ2 incorporates a dual deck layout as a complete system ideal for all mixing abilities, with a central colour LCD display to conveniently navigate your iPod library. In conjunction with its iPod capabilities, it is also compatible with a standard USB, vinyl records and CDJs (CD mixer). Its LCD display also shows all indicators including time, tempo and pitch control, as well as giving the option to change pitch range from 0% to -100% / +25%. It also enables the use of a key-lock function (for example, a song in the key of C can be sped up and still maintain its key). Although marketed for beginner to intermediate DJ's, it offers an impressive 3-band EQ for bass, mid and treble and a -10 / +10 gain control. For those who are interested in scratching, the iDJ2 offers a scratch mode which simulates classic vinyl scratching.
For beginners learning to mix, it has a indicator of song beat-matching in a 4/4 tempo, to help you keep your songs in sync.
Beat Mixing Tips for Beginners
If you have never mixed before, starting out with mixing the same song on both decks is the best way to pick up an ear for beat-matching. I recommend a basic House or Techno track to begin.Start by getting one track playing and stutter play the second track in (this is the technique used to bring the second track in on beat)
While both tracks are playing together, use your turntables to sync the two songs together; then, if the second track is speeding up or slowing down, use the turntables to re-sync them.
For example, if your second track is going slower than your first track, you would speed it up to get it in sync using your turntable.
Then, adjust the pitch-control to maintain this speed to the other track, by increasing your pitch percentage.
If your second track were going faster than your first, you would slow it down with your turntable and then maintain this by decreasing your pitch percentage.
You may have to repeat this process several times to get them fully in sync. Slight adjustment may be necessary to ensure they stay beat-matched.
Practice makes perfect. :)
