Occupational Safety Health Administration OSHA is a government agency that sets certain standards for employees and the workplace.

Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act OBRA sets the testing and training requirements for certified nursing assistants.

Medical Abbreviations and Medical Terminology for Certified Nursing Assistants

Hyper tension means above normal blood pressure. Hyper means above.

Hyperglycemia is high blood sugar and the -emia stands for blood.

Hypo tension means low blood pressure. Hyperkalemia is high potassium levels.

Hypokalemia is low potassium levels.

Febrile means having a fever.

Ab- means away from the normal such as abnormal. Abduction is to move the body part away from the body for the range of motion.

Ad- means toward the center. Adduction would mean moving toward the body.

Abduction and Adduction are on the state certified nursing assistant test.

Inter-means between and among. Interstitial means between and among tissues.

Intra- means within or inside the tissue. Some examples are intravenous IV and intramuscular IM.

Interpolar is between two poles or within two poles.

Internasal is between the nasal bones.

The difference between inter and intra is on the state test.

Intra- is within or inside the muscle.

Cyanosis is when a blue patient lacks blood in their body.

Erythr/o are erythrocytes and erythro means red.

Platelets are called thrombocytes.

Melano- means black deposits.
