Shortly after I gave birth to my first child over 16 years ago, I had a terrible attack of mastitis, which made breastfeeding excrutiatingly painful for me. Luckily before the birth, I had studied a little Homeopathy and I took just one dose of Bryonia (made from a very diluted tincture of white hops)and the pain and swelling disappeared completely and normal service could be resumed without wincing. At this stage in my life I have lost count of the number of times I (and my family) have had reason to be extremely grateful to Homeopathy.
Here are some tips about how Homeopathy can keep things flowing so that both mother and baby enjoy breastfeeding at its best.
BREASTFEEDING PROBLEMS
Homeopathic help
If your breast is hard, swollen, hot, red and throbbing and you feel feverish try Belladonna 30c.
If it is hard, swollen and hot, but pale in color , rather than red and you cannot bear the slightest movement of the breast take Bryonia 30c.
BREAST ABSCESSES
If there is smelly, burning pus take Merc viv or Merc sol 30c.
If there is pus, the area is very painful and the mother feels chilly, Hepar sulph 30c will help.
If the abscess has pus that is not smelly and strangely painless, but slow to heal, take Silica 30c.
MILK PRODUCTION
If you are over-producing take one Pulsatilla 30c.
If you are under-producing take Dulcamara 30c.
If you are swinging between the two extremes take Urtica urens 30c.
CRACKED NIPPLES
If you have a lot of soreness with pains radiating out from the nipple take Phytolacca 30c.
VOMITING BREAST MILK
If a baby tends to vomit after feeding, the mother can try one dose of Silica 30c. It will go through her milk to the baby.
More about homeopathy...
Only one and wait to see how you respond. Most people feel a little worse for a very short time then much better. You only need to take further doses if you got benefit from the first dose, but then the same symptoms returned. Often one dose will be sufficient and "if you ain't broke don't fix yourself!"
What if it doesn't work?
If there was no benefit from the first dose contact a homeopath and describe your situation in more detail, they will be able to suggest a more effective alternative.

Hello, I had my 3rd lil'n 6 weeks ago and am dealing with the same issue of underproduction of milk. Tried everything, this time hmpcs too. Was prescribed lac caninum which seems to worsten prob. Looked up Lactuca Virosa and asked for it from pract. who hadn't heard of it used for lact. It worked but if I cut down more than every 4-5 hours my levels dropped(30 c potency). Ran out and doc didn't have more so I orderd it and am waiting. How do I cont. with rem w/o proving? Is there other remedies I should try? Only 1 hmpc prac in my area who has no experience w this issue. Help pls! Would really like to not supplement(all splmt is @ breat not w bottle). I have tried EVERYTHING I can. Need experienced advice! Thank you.

I had a mastitis problem with my last child and contacted a homeopath who prescribed Sepia and not only the mastitis disappeared but I immediately started feeling much happier and it was only then when I realised that I had postnatal depression. I didn't have to have antibiotics which meant a lot for me and my tiny baby. I can't say how grateful I am to homeopathy, I haven't had antibiotics for 7 years now neither apirin and I am happy and healthy and so are my children who have never ever had any medicine but homeopathy and they are healthy and happy too! Thanks to Mary and all the homeopaths who put their joint efforts in spreading the word of homeopathy xxxx

I repeatedly had ear infections as a child, treated with antibiotics. It was not until I was in my late twenties that homeopathic treatment meant that I finally heard a skylark. Mothers deserve to know that they can do the best for their children by using homeopathic remedies. I wish my mother had known then what I know now. Well done.

Congratulations on a clear and inspiring introduction to this wonderful system of medicine. 27 years ago I vividly remember my baby daughter, suffering from oral thrush and how 2 doses of Antimonium Tartaricum cleared it in 24 hours together with the rattly breathing she had.
