    Hi Ines
There is no danger to your baby if you take homeopathic medicines while you are breastfeeding, in fact this is one of the ways you can give homeopathic medicines to young ones. Homeopathic medicines work if they match a person´s symptoms but if they don´t match nothing happens. So a medicine that is relevant to you will have an effect on you but not your baby.
Having said that I am not a big fan of over the counter remedies for cold sores, warts or other skin complaints. OTC stuff is great for first aid and acute minor illnesses but not for these kind of problems that are coming from the inside out.
I highly recommend you see a professional homeopath to strengthen your constitution and really get to the root of why you get cold sores, so you can be rid of them for good.
Wishing you and your baby well
    Mary

I have a cold soar and bought some homeopathic medicines. Apis mellifica 30C, mezereum 6c, and rhus toxicodendron 6c. I thought it was an ointment but they are little pills and the problem is that I'm nursing. Does anybody have any info? Do you think it can harm my baby?

Hi - this is Mary - since this isn't a blog the only way for me to reply is to sign my own guestbook!
Provings happen if you take the homeopathic medicine when you don't need to. They don't happen if you only take them when the benefit runs out.
I am not sure how you choose the medicine you are waiting on. To choose accurately I recommend you go to www.abchomeopathy.com and use their free remedy finder software - it is really good.
Another thing to consider is having constitutional treatment by having an i depth interview one to one with a professional homeopath. If you are prescribed a good constitutional every aspect of your health and wellbeing will improve - including milk production.
Have you tried herbal teas? Here is a good link: http://www.herbs2000.com/disorders/breast_feeding_p.htm on the subject.
If you need more help visit www.homeopathyworld.com and use my contact page - that way I can e-mail you.
Sarah - well done for persevering. Get back to me if you need to. M

Hello, I had my 3rd lil'n 6 weeks ago and am dealing with the same issue of underproduction of milk. Tried everything, this time hmpcs too. Was prescribed lac caninum which seems to worsten prob. Looked up Lactuca Virosa and asked for it from pract. who hadn't heard of it used for lact. It worked but if I cut down more than every 4-5 hours my levels dropped(30 c potency). Ran out and doc didn't have more so I orderd it and am waiting. How do I cont. with rem w/o proving? Is there other remedies I should try? Only 1 hmpc prac in my area who has no experience w this issue. Help pls! Would really like to not supplement(all splmt is @ breat not w bottle). I have tried EVERYTHING I can. Need experienced advice! Thank you.

I had a mastitis problem with my last child and contacted a homeopath who prescribed Sepia and not only the mastitis disappeared but I immediately started feeling much happier and it was only then when I realised that I had postnatal depression. I didn't have to have antibiotics which meant a lot for me and my tiny baby. I can't say how grateful I am to homeopathy, I haven't had antibiotics for 7 years now neither apirin and I am happy and healthy and so are my children who have never ever had any medicine but homeopathy and they are healthy and happy too! Thanks to Mary and all the homeopaths who put their joint efforts in spreading the word of homeopathy xxxx

I repeatedly had ear infections as a child, treated with antibiotics. It was not until I was in my late twenties that homeopathic treatment meant that I finally heard a skylark. Mothers deserve to know that they can do the best for their children by using homeopathic remedies. I wish my mother had known then what I know now. Well done.

Congratulations on a clear and inspiring introduction to this wonderful system of medicine. 27 years ago I vividly remember my baby daughter, suffering from oral thrush and how 2 doses of Antimonium Tartaricum cleared it in 24 hours together with the rattly breathing she had. Also around this time my wife had the classic symptoms of mastitis developing in one breast - it was a Saturday evening and I gave her one dose of Phytolacca - the problem literally melted away within hours. It can't be easy to be a newborn; coming into the world with immature organs and having to make huge adjustments in order to live outside the womb.

So, whilst conventional drug treatments all run the risk of side effects, homeopathic medicines being safe and gentle are just perfect for this time of life.

Every mother wants the best for her baby and this article is such positive guidance; thank you Mary Aspinwall for sharing your knowledge with us all.

I can't imagine being a new mom and not knowing about homeopathy. It is really helpful for all the issues that arise around breastfeeding, which Mary Aspinwall explains very well.

Homeopathy is also very helpful for many newborn problems like colic, which can make parents and baby very stressed. Homeopathy treats so many conditions easily and I appreciate the information in this article which starts to educate mothers how to use homeopathy effectively.
