What is Nutella?
A Chocolaty Hazelnut Spread
Nutella (pronounced "new-tell-uh") is a spread made up of a mixture of chocolate and hazelnuts. Hazelnuts have a lighter, more exotic flavor than peanuts, and when mixed with chocolate, it becomes a smooth, satisfying goo to spread on anything you want, or just eat by the spoonful straight out of the jar.
That in no way sums up how delicious Nutella is, really I don't even have the words to capture the taste. Just try it and see what you think.
From Wikipedia:
"Nutella ... is the brand name of a chocolate hazelnut spread. Nutella, manufactured by the Italian company Ferrero, was introduced on the market in 1963. The recipe was developed from an earlier Ferrero spread released in 1944. Nutella is now sold in over 75 countries.
An older recipe, Gianduja, was a mixture containing approximately 50% almond and/or hazelnut paste and 50% chocolate. It was developed in Piedmont, Italy, after taxes on cocoa beans hindered the manufacture and distribution of conventional chocolate.
Pietro Ferrero, who owned a patisserie in Alba, in the Langhe district of Piedmont, an area known for the production of hazelnuts, sold an initial batch of 300 kilograms (660 lb) of "Pasta Gianduja" in 1946. This was originally a solid block, but in 1949, Pietro started to sell a creamy version in 1951 as "Supercrema".
In 1963, Pietro's son Michele revamped Supercrema with the intention of marketing it across Europe. Its composition was modified and it was re-named "Nutella". The first jar of Nutella left the Ferrero factory in Alba on 20 April 1964. The product was an instant success and remains widely popular."

Nutella for Dessert
Finish World Nutella Day
with a decadent Nutella dessert.
Though known to most people as a breakfast food, my favorite way to use Nutella is as an ingredient in desserts. The sweet, chocolate, hazelnut taste works so well in cakes and cookies, and Nutella even works great as a frosting.
Melt a little Nutella in the microwave, and drizzle over vanilla ice cream.

Imported Nutella Hazelnut Spread
According to some people, the original European or Italian Nutella is less overly sweet and has much more hazelnut flavor. It even has different ingredients. Try and see what you think.

From an Amazon description: "Nutella has become very popular in the United States, BUT this particular Nutella that we carry is the original Nutella Italiana brand directly imported from Italy. You will not find this in most grocery stores and many Italians and Nutella fans agree that the traditional brand tastes much better then the USA brand."
