Great lens, and so true, good immune health is a key to general health and energy levels. Diet, nutrition and exercise are all huge contributing factors to good health. Supplements go a long way too with our modern lifestyle!

Very good tips on keeping the immune system fit through nutrition, diet, and exercise. My immune system is actually too alert and active so I must take immune suppressants to try to slow my immune system down. It really is a fine balancing act.

This is another fantastic lens. I could not help but take a peek at a few more of your lenses. Knowing I will likely want to bless what I read and that most of your lenses are outside of my jurisdiction, during special times like this I must take advantage of the opportunity. Blessed by an angel and featured at Memorial Day Blessings 2011.

What a thorough, fascinating lens! I love how you've presented it, and I learned so much. I've struggled with my weight over the years and I know that last year when I made the conscious decision to get healthy and lose weight, I was hardly sick, and this was after being sick a lot, always catching colds, etc...and then I sort of slacked during the summer and started getting sick again...but now that I'm back to healthy living, I feel so much better and I'm not getting sick anymore. Really wonderful lens, thank you for sharing this with us!
  • ajgodinho Feb 20, 2011 @ 12:21 pm | delete
Thanks for dropping by and sharing your experience with healthy living. Great to see that you've seen significant improvements in your health. It sure does make a big difference. I was one who never bothered to take care of my health too. With me, the issue is keeping those pounds on. But over 2 years ago, I made a 180 degree shift towards healthy living and it's made a huge impact on my overall health, though I still have a long ways to go, but moving in the right direction...to healthy living! :)

Having a healthy immune system is a must for anyone who is serious about losing weight and staying healthy. It all goes hand and hand with exercise and eating right.
  • deyani Jan 13, 2011 @ 2:53 pm | delete
Now I understand about immune system. I've been neglecting it by eating lots of junk foods, salty & greasy food combined with zero exercise. Thank you for writing this great immune system lens, I should start eating food which are rich in antioxidants and start doing exercise. --- Blessed ---

I've been getting sick a lot in the last 2 years, so I started taking all kinds of stuff for my immune system, and I've noticed that combination of workout, healthy meal plans, and of course extra vitamins really do make the difference. and I do my workout with some used treadmills , some used workout dvd's and sometimes just go for faster walks.
  • ajgodinho Nov 4, 2010 @ 4:44 pm | delete
I agree, it's important to make healthy living a lifestyle rather than a program. In doing so, we will see great improvement in our overall health and wellbeing.

Thanks for the great rundown on the immune system. I have fibromyalgia, so keeping an eye on my body and how it is working is important. Thanks!
  • ajgodinho Sep 21, 2010 @ 2:20 pm | delete
I know a few people with Fibromyalgia and have read a lot about it. It sure is important to know how the immune system plays an important role in the normal functioning of out bodies. According to MD and Nutritional Specialist, Dr. Ray Strand, proper nutritional supplementation, diet and exercise are key in dealing with conditions like Fibromyalgia. All the best to you and good health!

I love chemistry and understand well the role of free radicals and antioxidants. In my opinion, free radicals are the basis of all disease, including damaged vein valves and venous reflux, the root cause of varicose veins.
  • ajgodinho Sep 13, 2010 @ 10:07 am | delete
I agree that free radicals are the main culprits because they cause oxidative stress which is the cause of many degenerative diseases, that's why proper nutrition is key!

  • ajgodinho Sep 16, 2010 @ 1:23 pm | delete
That's great to know that you've survived the ordeal of Cancer! One of the main reason I'm a proponent of healthy living is because most people are oblivious to oxidative stress and the effects it has on their immune system overtime. Wishing you good health!

Excellent lens. It's funny, because I'm a ghostwriter and I write mostly health and fitness related material. I normally work out on a regular basis, but have been slipping the last few weeks. I finally went downstairs to my weight room today and realized I didn't have as much stamina as I did about a month ago. Time to get down to work again! LOL.

This is a very informative lens. Thanks for the read. :)

I love this lens! It's such a perfect, clear and thorough essay about the immune system and how it functions, how it gets pulled down, and how to pull it back up! I will recommend this lens to those I counsel about nutrition on Yahoo Answers. Also, thanks so much for your nice comments about my lens, "20 Important Parenting Tips" (I changed the title of it a bit since then).

Hi tcinvestor, thanks very much for your visit, valuable comments and rating. I can see your passion by what you've written. With regards to the natural/synthetic issue, I've actually covered it in my lens called Guide To Choosing The Best Nutritional Supplements. I've written a series of lenses, this particular one had a more general health theme, but the other two cover more details. Thanks again!
  • tcinvestor Jun 29, 2009 @ 8:34 pm | delete
Excellent lens..Thanks for helping to provide information to help people stay well. This has been my passion for over 20 years and am a big fan of others seeking to help people. You get a great rating from me. One suggestion I have is to take a vitamin supplement that is naturally plant derived and not synthetically produced as the naturally derived supplements are bioactive, identified & utilized by the body more so than synthetic forms. Otherwise, great stuff.

Hahaha... here's a secret i've never disclosed online, apart from doing affiliate marketing, i actually am a certified personal instructor. It's nice to hear people talking about the immune system once in a while as compared to those fat loss diets that we here so often about.

    You got it spot on!

Oh yeah, a good strong immune system prevents premature aging too ;)

Love to hear more form ya!
