Good Nutrition and Healthy Living

Good nutrition and healthy living start in the kitchen. The minute you make that statement more of us non-cooks start to run the other way. However, cooking healthy meals can be easy. You don't necessarily have to give up all the food you love. You just need to learn the secrets. In my crusade to healthy eating, nutrition made simple, I was able to find some easy, low calorie recipes that everyone can enjoy

Do you love pizza?

Everyone loves pizza. Well there's a way to make a pizza that is healthy and good for you. Don't worry you won't have to worry about kneading the dough. Especially since white flour spikes the blood sugar faster than white sugar and is also very addictive. We will use a whole gain pita shell. These are easy to find in any grocery store. Your shopping list will consist of:

Whole grain pitas
Goat cheese
Pizza sauce
Toppings

Ahh... The Toppings

The toppings are the fun part. Your can choose anything you want; tomatoes, onions, black and/or green olives, mushroom, etc.
To get started you'll want to prepare all you toppings ahead of time. Preheat at 450 degrees. Place your whole wheat pita's on a cookie sheet and top with pizza sauce and a light layer of cheese. Next you will want to sprinkle on the toppings of your choice, and top with more cheese. Place the cookie sheet in the oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Your family will love their new low calorie pizza. Don't be surprised if everyone wants seconds.

Do you want fries with that?

Everyone loves french fries, but all know how easily they go straight to your hips. Here's a potato recipe you'll love. Slice potatoes into thin slices and place on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle with olive oil and any spices you like. Cook at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until crunchy.
Every parent deals with trying to get their kids to eat their vegetables. You usually end up sautéing them in butter. While that taste great, it adds a lot of calories and take most of the nutrients out. I found an easy and quick way to get my kids to eat their vegetables is to sauté them in a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Remember to keep it healthy.

With recipes this easy to prepare healthy eating, nutrition meals are just around the corner. Once I completely understood how easy it could be I started changing the way I prepared meals for my family. They loved the way the meals tasted and don't have a clue that they are healthy and nutritious.
