Professional Baseball

In North America, professional baseball is organized into major league baseball, minor league baseball (teams and leagues affiliated with Major League Baseball), and independent baseball (minor league teams and leagues not affiliated with Major League Baseball).

College Baseball 

Many NCAA Division I, Division II, and Division III colleges and universities field baseball teams. Every year each division has a championship series with the premier event being Division I's Men's College World Series (MCWS).

Summer College Baseball Leagues 

College baseball does not end when school gets out. There are 40+ summer college baseball leagues where college players can continue to play and hone their skills. Most of these leagues play from June through August. Following is our (growing) list of these leagues:
Alaska Baseball League - ABL
The Alaska Baseball League is a premier summer collegiate baseball league containing players from major universities throughout the World. The teams that make up the Alaska Baseball League have seen many future Major league players compete within their stadium gates
Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League

California Collegiate League
The California Collegiate League, a proud member of the National Baseball Congress, has been in existence (Formerly known as the California Premiere League and the California Coastal Collegiate League) since 1994.
Cape Cod Baseball League
Celebrating its 114th year, the Cape League is the
premiere collegiate summer league in the country, attracting ballplayers from the best baseball programs in the nation.
Central Illinois Collegiate League
Central Illinois Collegiate League Serving college baseball Since 1963
Clark Griffith Baseball League
Wooden bat college summer league located in the Washington DC metropolitan area.
Coastal Plain League
In its 11th season (2007), the Coastal Plain League (CPL) fields 15 teams across North and South Carolina, and Virginia.
Dallas Dallas Amateur Baseball Association
DABA has been affiliated with the Stan Musial Division of the American Amateur Baseball Congress and National Baseball Congress for many years.
Florida Collegiate Summer League
The Florida Collegiate Summer League is a Wood Bat Baseball League with six teams in Central Florida. FCSL was founded in November of 2003.
Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League
The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League fields 11 teams.
Jayhawk Baseball League
The Jayhawk League is a Summer Collegiate Baseball league. It has teams in two Midwestern states in Kansas and Missouri.
Kentucky, Illinois and Tennessee League
The KIT League is a collegiate summer wood bat baseball league featuring teams from Fulton, KY, Union City, TN, Sikeston, MO, Farmington, MO, Owensboro, KY and Dawson Springs, KY (Tradewater).
MINK League Baseball-Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas
The M.I.N.K. League is composed of teams from Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas and the league started in 1910 with a six team charter.
New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
The New England Collegiate Baseball League - baseball in its purest form: college players, wood bats, grass fields and major league scouts.
New York Collegiate Baseball League
The New York Collegiate Baseball League, founded in 1978, is a summer wood bat league sanctioned by the NCAA and partially funded by Major League Baseball.
Pacific International League (PIL)
Established in 1992, the Pacific International League (PIL) is the Northwest's premier competitive wood bat league.
Pacific Southwest Baseball League
Pacific SouthWest Baseball League fielding 6 teams in the southwest.
River City Victory League
The River City Victory League is based in Wichita, Kansas and fields 6 teams in 2007.
Sooner Collegiate League
Founded in 2005, the Sooner Collegiate League is a summer college wood bat baseball league based in the Tulsa, OK. area.
SCC Baseball League
The Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association (SCC Baseball League) started in the fall of 2006. It fields 6 teams (as of 2007).
Southern Collegiate Baseball League Home Page
The Southern Collegiate Baseball League is incorporated as non-profit within the state of South Carolina, with by-laws and a Board of Directors. It is a wooden bat league currently made up of nine teams located in the Carolinas and Eastern Tennessee.
Summer Collegiate Baseball Association
The Summer Collegiate Baseball Association is a collection of summer college leagues.
Sunshine College Baseball League
The Sunshine College Baseball League (SCBL) is a competitive collegiate summer league that plays its games in South Florida. It was founded in 2006 and consists of 4 teams.
Valley League Baseball
The VBL plays a 44-game schedule each summer and is funded in part by Major League Baseball. The 2007 season marks the 15th season as a wooden bat league.
Walter Johnson Baseball League
Based in -- Wichita, Kansas, the Walter Johnson Baseball Leagues was established over 30 years ago. It fields 9 teams (as of 2007).
West Coast Collegiate Baseball League
The West Coast Collegiate Baseball League (WCCBL) is based in the Pacific Northwest in Wenatchee, WA. It fields 8 teams.
Western Baseball Association
The Western Baseball Association is a wooden bat league based in Southern California. It was founded in 1998 and fields 11 teams.
Western Major Baseball League
The Western Major Baseball League is a wood bat league based in Canada. Its history dates back over 50 years. It fields 11 teams.

Little League Baseball 

Little League Baseball and Softball provides opportunities for children 5 to 18 to play baseball or softball.

Little League Baseball Divisions

Baseball is open to boys and girls. The divisions for baseball are:

  • Little League Tee Ball - 5-6 years old (with a local option for 7- and/or 8-year-olds). Uses a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet.

  • Minor League Baseball - 7-12 years old. May be divided into machine pitch, coach pitch, and player pitch subdivision. Uses a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet.

  • Little League Baseball (sometimes known as the Major Division) - 9-12 years old but may be limited to 10, of 11 to 12. Uses a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet.

  • Junior League Baseball - 13-14 years old using conventional diamond and pitching distances.

  • Senior League Baseball - 14-16 years old using conventional diamond and pitching distances.

  • Big League Baseball - 16-18 years old using conventional diamond and pitching distances.

Baseball Halls of Fame 

There are two Baseball Halls of Fame for professional baseball in North America

  1. The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York

  2. The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in St. Marys, Ontario, Canada

There is also a College Baseball Hall of Fame located in Lubbock, Texas, as well as a couple of museums dedicated to little league or youth baseball.
