Alright, maybe they're not the greatest albums of the 60's but they were my favorites. When I started this I thought it would be easy to pick 10 of my favorite albums from that era but it wasn't. The 60's was an amazing time for music. A time when Rock & Roll really became force on it's own. There were just too many great albums to choose from.
Note that I have taken a bit of artistic license and defined the sixties from about 1966 to when Nixon resigned in 1974.
Top 10 Greatest Albums from the 60's
- Beatles
Magical Mystery Tour (1967)
Hard choice. Although all of their albums were great I always favored their later stuff. This was really a toss-up between any of their later albums. - Pink Floyd
Dark Side of the Moon (1973) - Crosby, Stills, Nash
Crosby Stills and Nash (1969) - Jesus Christ Superstar
Jesus Christ Superstar (1971)
This is the album version, not the Broadway musical version. - John Lennon
Imagine (1971) - Chicago
Chicago at Carnegie Hall (1972)
This was another tough one. I could pick from any of their early albums. I ended up picking this one because it encompassed much of their early stuff. In later years Chicago really mellowed out. Although they are still good there is no comparison to their early stuff. - Moody Blues
A Question of Balance (1970)
And finishing a close second was Days of Future Passed - Santana
Santana (1969)
The Abraxas album just missed in a photo finish. - James Taylor
Sweet Baby James (1970) - Guess Who
The Best of the Guess Who (1971)
What would be your list?
Tell me your top ten greatest albums of the 60's. Feel free to use artistic license to define the era.
