New York Jets Cheerleaders

Don't you even think of calling these girls cheerleaders. Just because they are darn sexy, dance at professional football games, and wear tight little outfits, that does not make them cheerleaders, at least thats what the New York Jets officials seem to have thought in 2006, now it's 2008 and the New York Jets Flight Crew, as they are called, are gearing up for their second season.

What's here?
A little New York Jets Cheerleader history, splashed with a few items for Jets Fans, and mixed with a huge dose of the ladies from the New York Jets Flight Crew!

The New York Jets Flag Crew

The New York Jets were one of a few remaining NFL teams that do did not parade fabulous looking women around during home games, at least that was the case up until 2006.

The New YorK Jets "NEW" (all female) Flag carriers were unvieled in October 2006 in their home game against the Miami Dolphins. That would have marked the first time in decades that the Jets had actual cheerleaders, only the Jets insisted that the girls weren't cheerleaders. "They're flag carriers," says Ron Colangelo, the Jets' VP of public relations at the time.

The girls were officially called the "Jets Flag Crew," and in the official announcement on the Jets' Web site, their non-cheerleading role is made clear and was accompanied by 11 photos of the girls doing 1 thing... carrying flags.

Despite their 2006 playoff appearance and promising outlook for 2007, the New York Jets 2007 season was plagued with a variety of problems. But lately, things have been looking up in the Meadowlands. With a new stadium in the making, some key free agency moves, the Jets are taking steps to beautify the state of New Jersey and breathe new life into the franchise.

The New York Jets Flight Crew

Before the 2007 NFL Season began, The New York Jets officials decided that their Flag Crew needed a little more umph and brought in coordinator, Denise Garvey, a former Knicks City Dancer, New Jersey Nets dance team member, and Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader to head their first ever dance squad. With her expertise and experience in performance and dance, Garvey and the organization held closed auditions, inviting 50 or so young women from the surrounding areas.
The New York Jets Flight Crew was hand-selected from an invite-only closed audition based on their dance experience and expertise. Many of the girls are students at universities in the surrounding New York and New Jersey areas, but some have full time jobs and participate in community projects as well.
