These cookies may just change your life.

My grandma was the best country cook that ever lived. So maybe I'm biased but she was truly one amazing cook and I feel extremely fortunate to have cozy memories of walking over to my grandma's house and letting the fragrance of fresh baked goods lead me there. We had the best conversations and games of scrabble over giant mugs of milk and these wonderful oatmeal cookies!

And that's just how they can change your life. I mean, you never know what you'll find out while talking over a batch of fresh baked cookies. Don't believe me? It was during one of these cookie conversations that I found out who got cut out of grandma's will. I'm telling you, don't under estimate the power of the cookie!

Make these and enjoy!

A tip from grandma.

Don't put scrawny raisins in your cookies.

raisins for cookiesIt might seem like a little thing, and I suppose it is, but sometimes the little things make all the difference. My grandma would soak the raisins [for whatever recipe she was making] in the appropriate liquid for that recipe to plump them up all nice and juicy. To this day I like raisins, but in any given recipe that calls for raisins, they have got to be soaked first. Trust me, just try this:

Mix up the eggs and vanilla first and stir in the raisins, then let the mixture sit for about 45 minutes before you begin mixing up your cookies.

Make these and you cannot go wrong.

Combine 2 sticks of butter (1 cup) with 1 cup of sugar and 3/4 cup light brown sugar.

Mix in 2 1/2 cups unbleached flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 2 teaspoons baking soda.

At this point the mixture appears really dry but its okay. Just keep going.

Add in your raisin/egg/vanilla mixture. Mix well. (that's the mixture of 3 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup of raisins that you let sit for a while before you started mixing everything all together)

Add 2 cups of oatmeal (the regular old fashioned box) and 1 bag of Nestle milk chocolate morsels. (not the semi sweet ones)

If you like big cookies, these work really well. I use a stoneware baking sheet and roll up about a tablespoon of cookie dough for each cookie so that only about 6 cookies fit on the sheet.

In my convection oven, I set the temp for 350 and bake for just under 10 minutes. I like mine a tad on the underdone side, so just watch to see them get lightly browned, not over done or they'll be too hard.

You're going to need a bigger bowl.

Don't be skimpy with your mixing gear, these cookies mean business.

See all the chunks? Do yourself a favor and use the big bowl. Nothing is more frustrating than thinking, "I'll just use my pampered chef mixing bowl, it'll be fine." and then finding out it doesn't fit and you've got flour and oatmeal all over the counter and then you've got to get out the big bowl anyway.

Trust me.

This is a recipe for oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookies.

There's a reason for all those things being in the title. It's not just oatmeal cookies. Not even oatmeal raisin cookies. For goodness sake don't forget the chocolate chips. Do it right or just don't do it, right?

Here's a great big bowl for you.

I love the 5 quart size.

This bowl gets the best reviews on amazon and is only ten bucks!

Looks like a great recipe. I'm a huge fan of oatmeal cookies (with or without raisins). I love the idea of adding milk chocolate morsels.

I hoped to read a comment from someone who actually made these Oatmeal Raisin Chocolate Chip Cookies. But no one has that commented. I'm going to make these cookies today and I will let you know how they turned out. My Mom is a fabulous cook & she also soaked raisins for all her recipes.
