Quaker Oats Rule! LOL I love oatmeal and I eat mine with butter and sugar.

My daughter used to order oatmeal every time we went out for breakfast - I think she liked the little teeny sides of brown sugar, raisins & milk. I loved it because it was healthy and one of the cheapest things on the menu!

I love oatmeal, it used to be my daily breakfast. Great lens!

I also remember oatmeal on cold Iowa mornings. I still love oatmeal!

For years, I began every day with a triple serving of Quaker Old Fashioned Oatmeal with lots and lots of cinnamon and unsweetened soymilk (yeah, you guessed it; I'm a health nut). But a couple of years ago, I invented something I call the Big Breakfast Cookie. I put a 3/4 cup of uncooked QOFO through a coffee grinder, dump in into a bowl, add buckwheat flour, flax seed meal, egg white, almonds, raisins, almond flavoring, vanilla, soy milk and sweetener (which is probably what will do me in at age 110), mix it altogether and "bake" it in my George Foreman Grill for about 5 minutes. That's right...the ol' George Foreman Grill! If you think a bowlful of QOFO is satisfying (which it definitely is!), you should try one of my BBCs. You won't get hungry again for at least six hours!

Good lens, dont forget to visit my site chocolate oatmeal cookies
  • fanfreluche Dec 1, 2010 @ 4:48 am | delete
I cook mine in water, then I add fresh cream and maple syrup and bananas. Sometimes I cook in milk with some spices, a dash of maple sugar and fruits. My 3 years old son Loves oatmeal, he takes his cooked in milk with bananas and blueberries, no sugar at all!

I like the real thing, and don't mind making it. We keep instant on hand though, for busy mornings and the RV. Congrats on the purple star.

Congrats on your Purple Star! I'm afraid we only use the instant variety on occasion. I should really try the cooking my own. Happy New Year 2010! :)

Hey Margo...thanks for visiting my Survivor Gabon lens...I replied to your questions about Gillian's age over there...thanks for taking the time to post. I appreciate it...I'm lens rolling your comfort food lens over to my comfort food lens (banana bread!...yum!) ...where would we be without our comfort foods...

As to your duel, there's a reason the oatmeal cookie recipes say "large flake not instant" ;o)

My Dad use to tell me when I was growing up, to eat my Oatmeal and it would put hair on my chest. Well, I still eat my oatmeal, but no hair there yet!

I LOVE oatmeal!! My mother hates it! It is great to eat something that is so good for you, and that you enjoy eating. I find that I eat it every morning now when I started to try and reduce my sodium intake. Turns out cold cereal is high in sodium....another benefit of oatmeal. :) Thanks for the great lens.
  • PleasantValley Nov 29, 2008 @ 10:56 am | delete
I love oatmeal mixed with rice milk and chopped bananas.
  • BevsPaper Nov 16, 2008 @ 10:19 pm | delete
We have real Quaker Old Fashioned Oatmeal about once per week. And Oatmeal cookies just aren't the same without real oatmeal. I use it in my meatloaf too. Great lens!

Thanks for coming and I am looking forward to that recipe!

I had a bowl of oatmeal a couple of cold mornings ago and it was great! I don't eat it often enough., not counting when I have it in my No-Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies (my favorite). I use "quick" style, somewhere between old-fashioned and instant.
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Nov 16, 2008 @ 10:38 am | in reply to seedplanter | delete
Seed planter, two great ideas. I remember doing things with the box, heck that could make an entire lens!

And adding oatmeal to other cookies is a great idea that I hadn't thought of. I put it in oatmeal instead of breadcrumbs and I put it in waffles, but didn't think of that. This makes a new module!

Another original lens from Margo! Nice one.

Margo, one of my first memories of oatmeal was not the cereal itself, but waiting for the box to empty so I could make a cradle for my dolls.

I add oatmeal to other cookie recipes, too, just because it adds a chewyness (is that a word?) and is nutritious. Sometimes I stir a couple TBs into a cup of fruit yogurt, too.

    Love this lens!
  • chefkeem Nov 15, 2008 @ 6:50 pm | delete
It looks interesting, I might give it a try. I'm such a lousy breakfast eater, you know. Even though I like breakfast foods, I'm always so busy rating breakfast food lenses in the morning... :) 5*s

I just love to see the Quaker Oats Man. He makes me feel good with warm feelings of home. I would take the challenge but since I am not the cook in the family, I will have to see what hubby says. I do love Oatmeal Cookies and will be back to add some recipes.

Fun and informative lens! I too remember doing facials with oatmeal! Might just try that again!
