As I am doing my research on who I would like to vote for this election I thought why not make a squidoo lens of my findings. Here you will find basic information on Barack Obama and John McCain as well as their plans for their presidency.

Meet Barack Obama 

Barack Obama Facts:

  • Born in Hawaii in 1961 and was raised there by his mother
  • Graduated from Columbia University (NY) in 1983
  • Graduated with a law degree from Harvard in 1991
  • Was the 1st African-American President of the Harvard Law Review
  • Served for the IL State Senate for 8 years
  • Was elected into the US Sentate in 2004
  • Became a member of the Veteran's Affairs Committee: fought to help veterans get the disability pay they were promised
  • Barack is a committed Christian
  • Lives on Chicago's South Side
  • Is married to wife Michelle Obama and they have 2 daughters

    Accomplishments in the IL State Senate:

  • Helped create the Earned Income Tax Credit program
  • Pushed for expansion of early childhood education

    Accomplishments in the US Senate:

  • Worked to rebuild the trust in the government by the American people by creating a law that allows every American to view government spending online
  • Voiced ethics reform to get rid of corruption in Congress

    What's Obama's Plan? 

    What would Obama like to work on during his reign as President? Below are the issues Barack Obama plans to work on for the American people:

  • Strengthen civil rights: strengthen the Department of Justice, fight employment discrimination, expand hate crime statutes, end deceptive voting practices: establish harsh penalities to those that engage in voter fraud, end racial profiling, reduce crime recidivism (repeat offenders), eliminate sentencing disparities, expand use of drug courts
  • Defense: re-build the military for 21st century tasks, expand to meet military needs on the ground, review weapons program, create a Civilian Assistance Corps (CAC)
  • Disabilities: provide Americans with disabilities the education that they need, end discrimination againist those with disabilities, promote equal opportunity, increase the employment rate and support independent, community-based living
  • Strengthen the economy: jumpstart the economy, prevent job loss where possible, provide middle class tax relief, improve trade with forgein nations, invest in the manufacturing sector to create new Green jobs, support small businesses, strengthen the abilities to create labor unions, protect homeownership, address predatory credit card practices, reform bankruptcy laws
  • Education: reform No Child Left Behind (fixing funding issues), Zero to Five Plan (infants), affordable high-quality child care, make math & science education a national priority, support college outreach programs, support English language learners, recruit & retain teachers with proper training, create an American Opportunity Tax Credit for higher education
  • Improving the Fiscal Policy and Government spending
  • Making healthcare more affordable

    What is McCain's Plan? 

    What would McCain like to work on during his reign as President? Below are the issues John McCain plans to work on for the American people:

  • Implement the McCain economic plan which includes: workplace flexibility, relief for families, government reform, supporting small businesses, cheap and clean energy, better healthcare, simplier and fairer taxes and lower barriers to trade
  • Strengthen the military: fighting againist terrorist attacks, effective missle defense, increasing the size of the military, modernizing the armed services, smarter defense spending
  • Supporting the Government of Iraq to help them run effectively on their own. He disagrees with those that believe we should withdraw our troops before this has been accomplished.
  • Reforming the immigration system: securing our borders and implementing comprehensive immigration initiatives for a secure nation
  • Education: work on addressing the underlying cultural problems in education and placing parents and children in the center of the education process. He plans to keep No Child Left Behind.
  • Plans to protect the 2nd Amendment: the right to keep and bear arms
