HERE'S WHAT I THINK

Obama Is Right About Pennsylvania Small Towns

Hillary Clinton supporters have given Barack Obama a hard time for what Obama said about racist, gun-obssessed extremists from small towns in Pennsylvania who hate anyone who doesn't have a certain kind of Christianity. Obama said that the bitter extremism these people cling to is motivated by the economic hardships they face. It was a compassionate attempt from Obama to understand the plight of people opposed to his campaign. Obama never said that most people from small Pennsylvania towns are like that. He was talking about a minority, but the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton, as usual, is blowing it out of proportion.

Hey Clintonista monkeybrains: Barack Obama was right about what he said about extremists from small towns in Pennsylvania.

Yes, Obama is right!

Bumious Frandersnatch says:

Heaven forbid that Obama call a spade a spade! What's more important, admitting that this kind of thing is tearing America apart, or being right in an argument?

bobgnote says:

Small town dummies are why Carlos Mencia tried to tell you all to laugh at white people, but he got cancelled. Obama doesn't even have the cojones to allege how 'JOE' Wurzelbacher is really named SAMUEL, but he dodged a $1200 IRS lien on his property, to help John McCain interrupt Obama, when Barack opined how the deregulated energy deals are 'robbing our wealth,' ALSO inciting Sammy to call himself 'Joe,' and get liened, but he blamed Obama and commies. Get it? Obama isn't great, at all. But those small-town trash aren't his enemies; in fact, Obama may have let 30 or so seats in Congress slide on by, for letting Sam call himself, "JOE," thereby stealing 30 seats in the election, where the Republicans were not only allowed to remain proximate, where they are illegally interested and a threat to peace and security, but also, Obama may have gotten a payoff to SHUTUP, from same extremists. Extremism is, as extremism does, and crime pays, doesn't it Barry. Or talk up those deregulated energy deals, one more time, pigger! You tanked 30 seats!

LeslieBrenner says:

Sorry, didn't notice you quoted part of Obama's remarks. USA Today has the complete section of his California speech here: http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/2008/04/you-decide-were.html

Again, Obama isn't talking about extremists. He's talking about people who feel DC doesn't listen to them. They feel "beaten down" and as if they don't have a voice.

Anyway, an overwhelming majority of Americans are bitter about what the Bush administration has done on so many levels. When Clinton ran against Bush Sr. he said something similar. So it's also hypocritical of Clinton to make an issue out of a non-issue.

LeslieBrenner says:

It's interesting that Clinton slammed Obama about his "bitter" quote. When Clinton won the small-town "bitter" vote in Pennsylvania.

But Obama wasn't talking about "extremists," but ordinary Americans. I think it's important to cite the actual quote here:
"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

jimcook says:

No, I can't prove Obama wrong... and my experience growing up in small-town New York just north of the PA border backs it up. There are a lot of people who are bitter where I grew up, and there is bitterness toward outsiders of racial, religious and other sorts who are seen as being opponents in competition for a small slice of the pie.

Of course, there are many other people in such small towns who have different ideas. But the ideas and perspectives Obama mentioned are there.

irregularworld says:

Maybe you don't like it, but Barack Obama is correct in what he says about extremists in small town Pennsylvania. Can you prove him wrong - with facts?

No way! Obama is wrong!

tonya says:

i am from a small town in pennsylvania, yes i own guns, and yes i believe in the bible, but i am in no way shape or form bitter. or at least i wasnt' until i heard this remark. obama is from a big city, and wouldn't have a clue how to survive in the country. it would be small town america saving his stupid ass when terrorists invade our country.

Saddam says:

Christians don't have to cling to anything but their faith. That is what drives them not guns. Most of the people in jail are in there because they had guns and no faith.

When a terrorists comes to your door what will you tell them? Sorry, I have no faith in your Muslim God and I don't have a gun so come on in and cut off my head, like you have promised to do to all who are not of the Isalmic faith.
