There are basics to training your dog how to behave. These basic things include teaching your pet how to sit, stay and come. These are basic commands which every dog owner will find handy when he and his dog are home or in public places.
Aside from teaching him on your own, it would be better if you also enroll him on a dog obedience school. Why? That way the pet will get the chance to socialize with other dogs and with his trainer, and socialization is also needed in molding a dog's behavior. Dogs are like children in a way, and they need to be taught what's correct and what's not.
You should shower your dog with treats every time he does follows your commands when you're still teaching him. That way he will realize that he needs to follow you and show appropriate behavior to be given treats. But do not physically hurt your dog when he does not follow your orders, because you two are in this together, which means as you teach him your commands, he is learning, too, and he gets nervous and is taking his time learning from you, so be patient. As I said, dogs and children are the the same in a way. Show consideration and be parentlike.
It is best if you teach him in an empty, open place, like a field or park and away from toys and other things that will distract him. If you teach him to sit, tell him in an authoritative voice, place your hand on his back and gently guide his bottom down. When it is down say sit and encourage him. Reward him with a treat. Rewarding him each time he does the right thing will make him get accustomed to it enough that he will perform your command even when you don't have treats to give. Replace treats with praises and encouraging words.
To teach him the command "stay", get your friend to support you. You should be sure your dog can perform the command sit for this to work. Tell your dog to sit and have your friend hold him. Walk away while telling him to stay. Hold up your hand firmly (holding up your hand makes him realize that you want him to stay without saying a word) for a few seconds, have your friend release him and when he runs to you command him to sit. Give him praises for obeying your orders and shower him with with treats. This command does not only help your dog learn how to stay; it teaches him to come to you as well, so don't forget to say "come" to him, not just his name.
There are many more to teach when you study and conduct obedience training for dogs. If you send him to sign him up for obedience classes, train him alone or both, you will soon understand that there are more lessons you should teach him. Have a lot of patience and consideration.
Text / Write module
What to expect
First things first. I was surprised when I purchased the ebook myself, expecting it to be some plain ebook full of text. But for a 175-page ebook, the author has clearly covered everything, and it's not all plain text, either. It has over 100 photos to help illustrate some of the lessons covered, making it a great visual learning tool.
As I mentioned, the ebook covers everything dog owners should know about owning and teaching their dogs effectively. Basically, it's divided into many chapters, so even first-time dog owners have something to learn here. The author first teaches the basics (owning a dog, puppy-proofing a room, dog breeds, how to house train a dog, etc) before teaching the more advanced stuff. This includes dog behavior (reasons why dogs behave in a certain way, aggressive behavior, excessive barking, chewing, digging, whining, rolling, etc), dog health, and advanced dog training and obedience commands and tricks.
As you read the ebook, you will realize that the author has laid out the lessons pretty nicely and smoothly, covering everything which dog owners, regardless of experience, should know. You will soon learn that Daniel clearly has a deep understanding of dogs, and why they act the way they do. It is full of common-sense and real-life approach backed by real case studies which let you learn why they worked, and how you can do it, too, to your dog. In short, he has not left anything out. For a 175-page ebook, it is surprisingly very informative, meaty and filled with both basic and advanced lessons laid out in easy-to-understand terms.
What I liked best, particularly, is what Daniel referred to as "dog whispering." This technique involves using the correct body language to effectively make the dog obey your command without problems. In fact, the author has devoted an entire section to it, covering its roots, concepts, and how you can apply it to everyday commands like sit, down, come, stay, quiet, etc.
To give you an idea, here are some of the many dog problems tackled in the ebook, and you will learn how to solve them from real-life case studies presented:
1. Aggression
2. Thieving
3. Biting and Nipping
4. Travel Problems
5. Coprophagia (poop eating)
6. 2 Dogs In The House
7. Destructive Behavior
8. A Death In The Family
9. Digging Holes
10. Bad Breath
11. Disobedience
12. Cat Chaser
13. Dominance Aggression
14. Flatulence
15. Fear of the Leash
16. Fleas
17. Fights Between Dogs
18. Hot Weather And Heatstroke
19. Nuisance Barking
20. Jealousy
21. Off-Leash Problems
22. Jumping On Furniture
23. Jumping On People
24. Worms
So, all in all, some of the techniques in the ebook are quite easy to apply, but some, like dog whispering, requires your persistence before you master them completely. In fact, you should devote some time training your dog using this ebook for you to succeed, because while many of these techniques can bring amazing results, if you're always busy and have little time for it, you will not likely see the results you want. So, don't buy it if you'll just read it and tuck it away.
Bonuses
Aside from the ebook, you will also get (as of this writing) seven bonuses with each covering specific areas of dog ownership. For one, the ebook is now offered as an audio download, to accomodate other people who learn better with audio, and so you can bring it with you anywhere you go. Other bonuses include manuals on how to handle dog aggression, house training, dog grooming (including coat care for specific breeds and nail clipping), security training, becoming the alpha dog, and access to members only forum.
Conclusion
To sum it up, $37 is peanuts compared to the hundreds or even thousands you will save from hiring dog experts or from sending your dog to training schools which might not be as effective as the techniques you'll get from this manual. Add to it the fact that it has seven bonuses, the price is a steal. It is really a no-brainer decision. All in all, this is highly recommended.
