Greed, Not Lethargy, is to be Blamed for the Obesity

Greed is to be blamed for the Obesity
We are all well aware that being Obese can lead to all kinds of harmful conditions, like: Hippertension, Heart problems, Kidney problems, Diabetes, Stroke risk etc. There are many more and we could count on, but these are some of the major conditions that you're probably aware of. There are other troubles tied with being obese, and the main one is how obese can completely damage your social life on numerous different stages. Usually the lazy lifestyle is to be blamed for the elevated obesity level throughout the developed world. But a research shows different result.
Australian WHO collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention has found that over the past thirty years normal calorific intake in people has increased by 500 calories a day while their exercise levels have altered little. This WHO study says: Greed, not lethargy, is to be blamed for the elevated obesity rates throughout the developed world.

Findings of the Research
This research is the most important piece of study to quantify the comparative contribution of food and exercise habits to the obesity outbreak. The researchers based their findings on an investigation of US data - the revision compared data from 1970s and the early 2000s, and found that diet of kids contained 350 more calories while adult diets gone up by 500 calories. If exercise planes had not changed at all, the weight of the ordinary adult would have greater than before by an average of 24 pounds.
But, the actual figure was four pounds lower, suggestive of exercise levels must have basically increased to some extent. The analyze found the normal US child is 9 lb heavier than those born in 1970s while adults considered 19 lb more.
For the US people, return to the 1970s levels, kids would have to cut eating by about 350 calories a day - equivalent to a can of fizzy drink and a small share of fries, and a grown person by about 500 calories - about the same as a burger.
This is a call to direct attention on energy consumption. There is no confirmation that a marked reduction in physical activity which play a part to the epidemic.

Obesity Epidemic - Vid
One third of Americans are classified as obese--and the number is growing. Let's get some insight into this expanding epidemic.
Could a mother's love trigger the Obesity outbreak that storm in many parts of the world? A recent study says mothers who miss signs of satiety in their new-born tend to over feed the babies, causal to extra weight gains during the six to twelve month period.
Rutgers University Nutritional Scientists were registered 96 low income Black and Hispanic mothers, who preferred to formula feed completely, for their study. Statistics was collected for the period of an initial interview and home visits at 3, 6 and 12 months. In the course of home visits, feedings were observed, the mothers were interrogated, and the child's weight was recorded. A number of individuality that considered infant's weight gain from birth to three months was included in the scrutiny. These aspects were - gender, race, ethnicity, maternal age, culture, country of origin, birth weight, body mass index (BMI) before pregnancy, and weight increase through pregnancy. On the other hand, the researchers warned that "feeding a baby is a primitive behavior, and to advise to a new mother that she is feeding her newborn too often, too much or worse yet, is not very worthy at reading her infant's signals, would necessitate an exceptionally skilled nurse or social worker..

Childhood Obesity Epidemic - Vid
One in five children in the United States is diagnosed with obesity. For the first time in history, this generation may be sicker and die younger than their parents.
Serious Health Problems in Children.
Without win the battle against obesity will mean premature death and disability for an increasingly large segment of world society. With no solid conflict to reverse the obesity epidemic, for the first time in our history children may stand facing a shorter lifespan than their parents.
More and more, many of the following diseases, formerly related only with Old age problems, are also being seen in obese children. Beside with the risks for life-shortening chronic diseases, being obesity in people that stigmatizes this condition gives to poor mental health connected with shame, low self-esteem, self-blame and depression.
* Type II diabetes
* Heart problems
* High cholesterol
* High blood pressure
* Various forms of cancer
* Breathing troubles & Asthma

Extra Body Fat
A hale and healthy body needs a lowest amount of fat for the normal functioning of the reproductive, hormonal, and immune systems, as shock absorption as thermal insulation for sensitive areas, as energy for future use. On the contrary, the buildup of too much accumulated fat can weaken movement and flexibility and can change the appearance of the body. Obesity is usually outlined as having extra body fat than is optimally healthy. Being Obese is a normal condition, especially where food in-take is plentiful and lifestyles are lazy. As much as 64% of the US adult residents is measured either Obese, overweight. This count has risen over the last 4 decades.

Why "Obesity" is Dangerous?
Being Obese (especially in the younger ages) can have upsetting effects on your social life, which will border your social behavior with own family and friends, and steer to other troubles like anxiety and depression.
The threat of diabetes which is a 'silent killer' and the heart related diseases intensify for the obese. And the listing is endless. Breathing system of an over weight-person is under stress and he or she is always short of breath. An over weight person going through surgery faces problem for the anesthetist as anesthesia involves breathing of gas which is safe for a normal person but may create difficulty and may even prove deadly to the obese. Obesity may cause hormonal imbalance in men due to the reduced making of male sex hormone resultant in low sex drive. Premature aging is one of the health exposures of obese. Once a person puts on weight and fat, the body outline and look transform due to extra fat accumulations under the skin. This surplus fat deposit roots excess perspiration, and more skin wrinkles making the person seem older than he/she actually is.
Obese persons also suffer from joint pains, lower back pain and ineffectual libido which are the sure signs of early aging.
Obese may also leads to the back pains. The back bone of our body supports the weight of our body and when it is filled to capacity as in the case of an obese person, back pain builds up causing lot of discomfort and it also causes joint pains in some obese people.

How You Calculate 'Obese' ?
The individual's body weight divided by the square of his height is Body Mass Index (BMI). The formula generally used in medicine produce a unit of measure of kg/m2. BMI can also be resolute by a BMI chart, which shows BMI as a function of weight (horizontal axis) and height (vertical axis) using curve lines for different values of BMI or colors for different BMI groups.
To find your BMI, multiply your body weight in pounds by 705 and divide by your height in inches squared. Or divide your body weight in kilograms by your height in meters squared. A score of less than 25 is acceptable; from 25 to 30 is overweight; and above 30 is obese.

Women Face More Obese Bias.
Whereas Obese is a plus point for men climbing up the corporate ladder, it works against women, as a latest study. Mr. Mark Roehling, Associate Professor of Human resource Management, Michigan State University (MSU) who led the study expressed that the results advocate, while being obese limits the career prospects of both women and men, being 'merely over weight' troubles only female executives and may actually help male executives.
Results show that between 45 per cent and 61 per cent of top male CEOs are Obese, which is higher than the US average of 41 per cent in equally aged men. In difference, only five to 22 percent of top female CEOs were overweight, related with the US average of 29 per cent among similarly aged women.

Influence of SSBs on Obesity
Regular consumption of iced tea, fruit drinks and soft drinks has been connected with weight increase and risk of obesity, but the part of SSBs(sugar-sweetened beverages) in the development of related chronic metabolic diseases, such as metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, has not been quantitatively reviewed.
In modern life style, intake of sugar-sweetened SSBs, which include the full range of soft drinks like soda, fruit drinks, and energy and vitamin water-drinks has been gradually increasing to various degrees across the world. For example, in the U.S. between the late 1970s and 2006 the per capita intake of SSBs increased from 64.4 to 141.7kcal/day, instead of more than a twofold increase. Of particular concern is the quick flight of increase apparent in many developing countries where admission to SSBs has grown alongside with rising rates of urbanization.
Prevention
When it comes to losing weight and fighting these diseases, many of us don't realize that apparently difficult behaviors such as eating healthy and exercising on a regular basis can be made easier and possible through small changes to our everyday lives. There are hundreds of small steps that we can include within our busy lifestyles to begin moving ourselves and our families toward health.
In some cases, obese problems arise from a grouping of habits and genetic factors. Specific disorders, like thyroid gland problems or unusual genetic disorders, are rare causes for people gaining weight. Most important factors in weight gain are eating habits and deskbound lifestyle. As lives become busier, there is no enough time to cook healthy meals, so more and more people eat at restaurants, buy quick foods at the grocery store or food market to heat up at home. All of these can have lots more fat and calories than meals prepared from fresh foods at home.
Whether you are at a possibility of becoming obese, at present overweight or at a fit weight, you can take steps to avoid unhealthy weight increase and associated health troubles. Not amazingly, the steps to stop weight increase are the same as the steps to drop weight: regular exercise, a healthy diet, a continuing obligation to watch what you eat and drink.
Exercise regularly. One of the most important things you can do to stop weight gain is to exercise systematically. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, you need to get 150 to 250 minutes of reasonable -intensity activity per week to avert weight gain. Sort of intense physical activities include fast walking and swimming.
Eat healthy meals and snacks. Concentrate on low-calorie, nutrient-dense foods, like fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Keep away from saturated fat and limit sweets and alcohol. Keep in mind that no one food offers all the nutrients you require. Select a variety of foods throughout the day. You can still have the benefit of small amounts of high-fat, high-calorie foods as an occasional treat. Just be sure to pick foods that promote a healthy weight and good health more often than you prefer foods that don't.
Monitor your weight regularly. Individuals who weigh themselves at least once a week are more successful in keeping off extra pounds. observing your weight can tell you whether your hard work are working and can help you identify small weight gains before they become big problems.
Be consistent. Sticking to your healthy-weight plan throughout the week, on the weekends, and amidst vacation and holidays as much as possible increases your probability of long-term success.

What You Think About It?
Which One you Want to Blame? (Eating Habit or Lack of Physical Activity)

Yes, Eating Habit is the Main Reason for the "Obese"
swentworth says:
Your body needs fuel to support its everyday functions, so if you to not give it what it needs, nearly 40 essential vitamins and minerals and water, your body is not going to work the way its suppose to. Therefore, when you body gets bogged down with unwanted slug from poor eating, you become less active. Get down the weight and eat right, your physical activity will increase (or perhaps watching soaps on TV is what you rather do anyway).
Whytstudios says:
become vegan stop almost all your health problems!!! i reversed type diabetes in 3 weeks make the change vegan in the raw will get even faster results its proven ..... since i became vegan i have not even had the flue!!! try it before u die from it!!!!!!
pupplesan says:
Some modern foods are essentially metabolic poisons.
miaponzo says:
Definitely eating and what we eat!!! And lack of physical activity too!!!
darciefrench says:
We can compare first and third world countries to see the differences in bodies directly due to food availability. I was obese from overeating, wrecked my bowels. Lost the weight easily by doing spiritual work to remove the emotional blocks that triggered the overeating- without diet or exercise. Diet or exercise just balances the problem a bit - the core issue of obesity (eating for comfort) needs to be transcended. So I might not call it eating for 'greed' but for comfort.
No, Lack of Physical Activity is the Main Reason for the "Obese"
prikazen says:
Both! We are living in a world full of processed high caloric food; there is lack of outdoor activities with friends. A lot of people seem unhappy (and they are not aware of it) so they just sit in their homes instead of going out and have some healthy exercise - alone or even better - with their friend.
ChrisDay says:
What an issue - I can't say yes or no but have plumped for 'no' arbitrarily - there are so many factors that such a black-and-white division in this debate is too limiting. What sort of food we eat also plays a part. Our mental state is a big one - who can ever fathom the power of the mind, even in a physical context? Of course, exercise is important. We are too sedentary by far, in our Western culture and, in England, the loss of village communities and facilities necessitate so much travelling by car for essentials. Undoubtedly, 'empty calories' are bad news and the food/drink manufacturers and fast food outlets have a lot to answer for. What is really vital is balance in the diet, providing sufficient nutrients. If 'empty calories' are eaten (carbs, sugar, alcohol and fizzy drinks), the body will store them, anticipating a time of need and awaiting proper nutrients to come along to use them up. (If a factory orders too many of one component, it will not discard them but stockpile them, awaiting other components to come along to use them up - so it is with the body). Education and sensitive guidance are crucial, for those who suffer. This education should start from early childhood and be given/offered to those adults (and esp. parents) who are in trouble. This is a problem of society and culture now and we have to pull together and face up to it, from the ground floor upwards.
Jhangora says:
Both are causative agents. If I have to chose one I'll side with lack of physical activity. If you exercise a lot even fat laden food is easily digested.

A Pill to Fight 'Obesity'.
News: A team of experts has identified an Enzyme that resolves whether the 'Obese' eat is burnt off as energy or stored in the body. A break through which raises the possibility of a Pill to target the enzyme, allowing people to eat with no danger of putting on over weight.
This Pill could soon bring in a new weapon in the crusade of the 'obesity' - thanks to the scientists who have uncovered a 'fat controller' in the human body which could be the answer to staying slim and prevention heart disorders. In their study on laboratory rodents, the team of California University researchers, focused on MGAT2, an enzyme found in intestines of mice as well as humans. The Daily Mails reports that Mice with no protein were able to eat a high-fat diet while remaining slim and healthy. Mice captivated fat was burnt off as energy, rather than stored.
The mice in the study also seemed well again at processing sugar, redusing their risk of diabetes, and had lesser levels of 'bad' cholesterol in their blood. Mice treated with AICAR for 4 weeks burned extra calories and had a reduced amount of fat than untreated mice and when tested on a Tread Mill, they could run nearly 50% longer. Prof. Ronald Evans, the researcher of the Sulk Institute in California said: "We have exercise in a pill. It is tricking the muscle into believing it's been exercised daily. It proves you can have a pharmacological equivalent to exercise."

- The easiest way to curb obesity is to remove the chemicals added to our food that make people want to east more, with Monosodium Glutamate and Aspartame being two of the worst offenders, beloved by food corporations because they increase consumption and sales and lead to great profits. But the government dares not speak out against the corporations, especially in an election year, so they bash the bake sales to make it look like they are trying to do something about the problem.

- Very interesting debate. I tried calorie counting, both from the point of view of food intake and exercise and it became very apparent that a small amount of extra food can take an enormous amount of exercise to work off. Obviously exercise is vital for a healthy body, but consuming far too much them trying to work it off just doesn't work.

- I think stereotyping all obese people as "lazy" is disingenuous. There are a lot of physiological issues that can cause obesity, not just lethargy. There are a myriad of problems that it can cause, but there are also a myriad of reasons why a person becomes obese. Lots of great information in this lens and I learned a lot about the subject.

- Even mild obesity may affect lung function, and Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is generally worse for an overweight person.
(Of course it's not just overweight people who suffer from this.)
Snoring can be a symtom of OSA, but it's not a joke.
OSA is a condition that can lead to heart problems, stroke, and extreme day-time tiredness which can have fatal consequences if a driver falls asleep at the wheel. By losing excess pounds, the dregree of OSA may be reduced.
