OBEY Shirts by Artist Shepard Fairey

Shepard Fairey's work is very vibrant and bold....
This stylized form is usefull for the propaganda pieces that deal with issues in society, his main focus is to, "question everything"....

Fairey's work can be spotted a mile away, and also works well in advertising...

In the Early 90's Shepard Fairey started screen printing shirts and promoting stickers with the message Obey, taken from the John Carpenters movie, "They Live".....
Obey started out with an image of Andre the Giant that Shepard had used in a school project. The image was a stencil of a newspaper article with Andre The Giant's image. Fairey took that image and began spreading it around everywhere. His goal was to get people interested in what it meant, putting their attention towards it's source, his art.

He put Andre everywhere, spread the word,"OBEY"... and went on to form Obey Propaganda clothing.

...In 2006, Shepard Fairey released the book, "Supply and Demand", about his street art ...

The Hope image is of course the iconic image that boosted him into the spotlight during the Obama campaign of 2008, and controversy over the image used by the AP.

In 2008, the book, "The Philosophy of Obey", was released....

Obey has been along time in the making since that first drawing of Andre the Giant in 1989....

Shepard Fairey recently was in a movie with Banksy and other graffiti artists titled, "Exit Through The Gift Shop"...check below for the dvd...In the movie is rare glance back at Fairey before he was as well know as he is today....
