Obituary Searches

Finding out information to generate a family tree can be a very daunting task, unless you use obituary searches.

I started piecing my family history together some time ago, but kept coming up blank. I knew a lot of my relatives were deceased, but didn't know where they lived before they died, which made for some serious hard work.

Sure you can go all out, ignore the expense and hire a Private Investigator to do the leg work for you, but you will spend a lot of cash to get the same results as if you had just done an obituary search yourself.

The website I found was like a breath of fresh air, and yes, this is where the P.I. would probably have got the information he charged you a lot for, take a look Obituary Records. Looking through obituary records may seem like a strange thing to do but you would be surprised what you can actually dig up (no pun intended).

The obituary searches people carry out are not just for family trees, they can also be used for other purposes. An example would be, if you were putting together a High School Reunion and hadn't seen or heard from someone for a long time, it may sound morbid but you could check the registry before sending a bereaved spouse an invitation.

What information can you expect to find from obituary searches

This obviously depends on the information recorded at the time of death and how many years ago the records were made. But even though you may think that some records may be too old or the person was too obscure, you should still be able to find out a great deal of information about a person, including there last address.

Finding a persons last address can of course lead to other things. You could have long lost relatives which you knew nothing about living in the area, what if you weren't the end of the line of a family but merely the start of one.
