From an early age, H. David Meyers had a talent for coaxing sweet, swirling notes from the oboe. At 15, he was performing at Carnegie Hall. Eventually he had a dozen solo appearances with the National Symphony Orchestra. Last year, at 61, he collaborated with musicians of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic.

HAGERSTOWN - Oboist Fatma Daglar took on "the Boston Marathon" of concertos Saturday during the Maryland Symphony Orchestra's MasterWorks III concert at The Maryland Theatre.

Daglar, the featured soloist, performed Richard Strauss' "Oboe Concerto in D Major," a piece musicians regard as a tough piece for oboe players.
