Revealing the hidden, occult symbolism of items from our darkly unique Gothic shop!
Throughout time, those things which are deemed to be "out of the mainstream, occult or of a darker" nature are usually seen as negative, wrong or inappropriate. True beauty can often be found in things that have long since lost their luster, or have never been given a favorable start in society to begin with.
The Gothic genre could be seen not so much as an outer manifestation of dark, brooding colors and obscurity, but rather an inner perspective on the often overlooked corners of the world.
While the stereotypical image of a "goth", is one who is troubled, depressed or strange, this is not always the case. Why do so many "Goth's" wear black? One could respond with, "Well, why do some many people wear yellow?"
Not only is it a preference, but wearing black could be considered favoring the absence of color, or a direct refusal to participate in the shinny, bubbly, fake aspects of the mainstream.
While many superficial things could be said concerning this and every genre, the point of this Lens is to examine the occult symbolism found in some of the Gothic items we carry in our Gothic shop, Obscuria. We may also branch off and discuss the symbolism of the Cyber and Industrial items we carry as well.

The Symbolism of the Pentagram or Pentacle.
What it is and what it isn't.
A Pentagram (as pictured with our
Medieval Pentangle Pendant by Alchemy Gothic) with one point facing upwards, represents wo/man placing Spirit above Matter, whereas if two points are facing upwards, this represents placing Materialism above Spirit. In modern times many, without understanding, view any Pentagram as evil. It is ironic that up until Medieval times, the five points of the pentagram represented the five wounds of Christ on the Cross, in the guise of a Saviour.
Like many ancient Esoteric symbols, the pentacle is an ancient astrological-alchemical hieroglyph that is one of the most misunderstood of universal symbols. This five-pointed star's origin reaches back 1000's of years in Mesopotamia and was a graphical measurement of the astrological conjunctions of the Sun and Venus. Imbued with esoteric qualities, the pentagram represents the morning star phase of the planet Venus.
It is also believed that the pentagram was the original device central to the Seal of Solomon. Although many interpretations exist for this mystical star, Alchemists view the five points as Spirit, air, fire, water, and earth. The endless, interwoven sides of the pentagram represents continuity and eternity as it binds evil forces in order to bring harmony, peace, and luck.
Much more could be said of the Pentagram, it's symbolism and Magical uses, but suffice it to say this symbol represents the highest ideal and is a an indispensable tool for pursuing the Great Work.
