Do you have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?
I know that I do and perhaps maybe you do as well.
This lens will take a look at various activities and try to help you decide if you might suffer from this common mental disorder. Now, that's not to say that you are going crazy, or that you are half-nuts or even that the fellows with the straight jackets should be keeping an eye on you.
In fact I think OCD is a good thing because it shows you still have life and energy in you and both those are good things.
Let us now proceed and look at OCD in some depth.

Poll No. 1
Let's take a poll before we learn more about OCD.
What exactly is OCD?
"Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce uneasiness, apprehension, fear, or worry, by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing the associated anxiety, or by a combination of such obsessions and compulsions. Symptoms of the disorder include excessive washing or cleaning; repeated checking; extreme hoarding; preoccupation with sexual, violent or religious thoughts; aversion to particular numbers; and nervous rituals, such as opening and closing a door a certain number of times before entering or leaving a room."
Below is the full article from Wikipedia.

- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
Is there a difference between OCD and Energy-Driven Passion?
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Repetitious actions, hoarding, excessive time spent on something, double checking - triple checking, thinking the same thing over and over
Is OCD an Addiction?
This addiction may have some negative consequences (what addiction doesn't?) but it is not life threatening. It might take away a small degree of quality in your life in that you could be experiencing other things and you could be using some of your time more wisely but it won't hospitalize you.
Also, everyone of us has addictions of one sort or another. In fact, I believe we all have OCD. Some of us have just a minor dose of it - others have a good share.
Farmville, Cityville, Nerdville ...
If you find yourself playing the same game hour after hour after hour, chances are high you have OCD.Have you said, after playing it for a year or two, that you are going to stop playing this game and along comes a new feature to the game, and on you go again.
This doesn't apply to me. After playing Farmville for almost two years and Cityville for almost a year - I walked away from them and started to Squidoo.
Twitter, Squidoo, Facebook and Blogging
As I write this module, I think of many of the people I have befriended on Twitter, Facebook and Squidoo. Many of you know what I mean and many of you might feel I am thinking of you and yes, you are probably right.I know of people who are still on Twitter three years after I met them. They are still tweeting regularly about the same old thing - they throw in variations but their goals have not changed. One of them tweets one-line jokes, another tweets music, a third tweets about social injustice and so on.
On Facebook, I have friends who are on all day uploading funny posters, music videos, religion, comments about government corruption and some idiot who constantly tells others where to get FREE ebooks (oops, wait a minute, that's me). I even have friends who keep me updated on what they are doing at a given time ... "I'm at the hardware store buying a ladder" or better yet "I just spent the last half hour washing dishes". Like, as if I give a hoot.
And of course there is Squidoo. I suspect a lot of my friends (and yes, I do consider you my friends) will open their eyes a bit wider now that we have reached this point.
Question - When does a Squidoo lensmaster shows signs of OCD? Does making one Squidoo lens a week indicate you have OCD? What about if you have made over 100 lenses? I ask that to myself as well as you as this is my 88th lens. There are some lenmasters with more than 300 lenses to their credit - what about them?
Let's not forget the bloggers among us. Some people only have one blog but they are constantly updating it and some of them may only have a few readers who follow them. Then there are others who are not content with one blog but have two, maybe three or maybe even a half dozen. I'd say having a half dozen blogs is a good sign of having OCD.
Hoarding, Accumulating and Collecting
Are you a collector of things? Are you a Pack Rat?I collect American Indian Head Pennies - I have two collections. I also collect Canadian Large Cents - I have two collections of them as well. Does that make me Obsessive Compulsive? Probably.
Do you accumulate far more than what you need? Are you afraid to throw things away because you might need them .... five years from now? Perhaps you are just being organized, thrifty and resourceful. You decide.
Other examples of possible OCD behaviour
Do you sing the same song in you head all day long?
Do you check your taps and the lock on your back door just once before you go out or do you do it twice, three times ... four?
Awareness or Denial?
Let's face it - nobody is perfect even though there are are some rare people who are close (like me ...duh). Besides, how big a problem is OCD anyway? I suppose that depends on each person's life-style.. For some, it is a minor inconvenience - for others, it can be a major issue. Only the person who has it and those around them can say how serious it is.
My Personal Assessment of OCD
- Do I triple check taps and the lock on the back door when I leave the house? Yep
- Do I spend hours and hours on the Internet per day? Yep
- Do I have more clothing than I need for the next year or two? Let's see - I have about 10 never worn t-shirts and about 8 pairs of new jeans - Yep
- Do I find it difficultly to break away from an activity when something else needs to be done? Yep
- What about groceries - do I have only enough for the two of us for the next few weeks? Let's see - about 10 boxes of cereal, 40 cans of beans, 40 cans of soup, 5 large jars of peanut butter, a freezer full of meats, 10 bottles of spaghetti sauce, 20 cans of tomatoes, oh yeah - and about 10 tubes of toothpaste, 40 bars of soap, 12 large bottles of liquid laundry detergent and 10 bottles of dish detergent - I probably have enough for the next 6 months !!!
- How many pairs of reading glasses do I have? About 8. Yep
- What about pens that work? Over 100. Yep
- Conclusion - I might suffer form Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

- I know someone who has this disorder. It's not a joke. She cuts her grass everyday. She doesn't want to. The anxiety that something bad will happen if she doesn't is too great & she will go out and cut the grass. Even knowing that the thoughts that plague her are not rational is not enough to make them stop. She is a senior citizen, her body is tired & she does not need to be out cutting the grass on a 90 degree day. Especially when she just cut it the day before! She really suffers. OCD is an anxiety disorder & the people who have it suffer tremendously. It is so tragic!

- My sister tells me that I have this. She says it isn't normal to write enough book review to become a top 100 reviewer on Amazon or to make 500 lenses on Squidoo. Well, I have relaxed on the book reviews and my reviewer ranking dropped after I got hooked on Squidoo.
