Occupy Wall Street vs. The Tea Party Movement

Corporate Politicans

Corporations now spend more money on lobbyists than on taxes. In fact, some corporations actually get money back, either directly or in the form of subsidies. The corporate take over of the government is clearly illustrated in my first lens on Bill Moyers with interviews and images. This is one of the lenses I'm making in the hopes of bringing the whole con game of playing one side against the other into sharper focus. Basically, there's a few old, rich, retarded men, creating a war between people who are essentially the same (with the same REAL goals), while the few privileged at the top reap all the benefits of this weird conflict... and the laughs. Learn and spread your knowledge with evidence and clear explanations, if you can or want to. [See featured lenses for important additional information]

Why is Our Nation So Divided?

Video with Transcript

BILL MOYERS: "Why do you think our nation is so divided? Is it because we're so diverse or is there something else at work here?" Thanks for your question.

Well I think it's human nature at work, don't you? And it has been ever thus. Read Genesis where the Bible's First Family is so contentious that young Joseph was dumped in a pit by his brothers and left to die. He escaped, made his way to Egypt, and -- well, you know the rest. Here in America, the colonists were so divided that one third fought for independence, one third remained loyal to the Crown, and the other third stayed on the sidelines better to exploit whatever outcome the Revolutionary War produced. We were so divided over slavery we went to war, turning families against families, neighbors against neighbors and the soil red with each other's blood.

Politics is an alternative to fratricide but it's no pacifier of our conflicts over issues that touch our deepest emotions, like: taxes, abortion, immigration, sexuality--you name it. The ambition for power and especially the control of government brings out the martial spirit that in our better days we manage to subdue, for the sake of sure survival. Sometimes just to remind myself of how much we can disagree and dislike each other, I go back to read the marshal speech Robert Ingersoll made when he nominated James G. Blaine for President at the National Republican Convention in 1876: "Like an armed warrior, like a plumed knight, James G. Blaine marched down the halls of the American Congress and threw his shining lances full and fair against the brazen foreheards of every traitor to his country and every maligner of its honor." If that makes you think of the TV commercials hurled in salvo after salvo in Iowa today, you get the point. We are a querulous people. Civilization is but a thin veneer of civility stretched across the passions of the human heart. And civilization doesn't just happen; we have to make it happen. And that's not easy. Thanks for your question.

Bill Moyers Interview: How Do Conservatives and Liberals See the World?

Video with an extract of the transcript

JONATHAN HAIDT: So I assume many viewers have seen the movie "The Matrix" and, or, one of those movies. And, it's a conceit in the science fiction book that the matrix is a consensual hallucination generated by computers and that we all live in it.

BILL MOYERS: Right.

JONATHAN HAIDT: And I think this is a brilliant social psych metaphor. Back when we all encountered people of the other party, you couldn't have a consensual hallucination that wasn't interrupted by other people.

But once we can all live in these lifestyle enclaves, we only watch certain TV shows, we only go to certain websites, we only meet people like us, the matrix gets so closed in that each side here lives in a separate moral universe with its own facts, its own experts. And there's no way to get into the other matrix, to just throw, you can't just throw arguments or scientific studies at them and say, 'Here conservatives, deal with this finding.'

It's not going to do anything. And conversely, they throw it back at you. We all feel as though we're living in reality. But them, they're caught up in this matrix. They're in la-la land. But we're all in la-la land. If you are part of a partisan community, if you're part of any community that has come together to pursue moral ends, you are in a moral matrix.

BILL MOYERS: My side is right, your side is wrong. Just ipso facto, right?

JONATHAN HAIDT: That's right.

What is an echo chamber? An echo chamber is when you control several sources of information and use those sources of information to spread news and rumors that suit your political and business agenda.

All of the below are examples of "echo chambers" - i.e. sources of information controlled by a few who use these sources to promote thier ideas over and over again while making them seem to be from independent (and therefore reliable) sources. The video below is an example of an echo chamber that extends to ALL of the US's mass media News networks. Its better to have two sides fighting to keep the masses attention/distracted. That's how the gladiator system of Rome distracted the populace while the countries social and economic structures fell around them.

The Tea Party Started In 2007 ... And WAS Taken Over Soon After!

Fox News and the Koch Brothers Collaborated?

News footage from 2007 mixed with other video that documents the origin of the modern day Tea Party movement and those responsible for it.

It was started in 2007 from the grassroots by Ron Paul supporters for his 2008 Presidential Campaign. After gaining momentum it was co-opted by certain Republicans with help from Fox News and other corporate entities. It's no longer the spontaneous decentralized movement that it once was though Ron Paul's message of limited government and a return to the Constitution is still at it's core.

Bruce Bartlett on Where the Right Went Wrong

In this Moyers & Company segment, Bill Moyers talks with conservative economist Bruce Bartlett, who wrote "the bible" for the Reagan Revolution, worked on domestic policy for the Reagan White House, and served as a top treasury official under the first President Bush. Now he's a heretic in the conservative circles where he once was a star.

Bartlett argues that right-wing tax policies - pushed in part by Grover Norquist and Tea Party activists - are destroying the country's economic foundation. When he called George W. Bush out as "a pretend conservative" in his book Impostor: Why George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy, Bartlett was fired from his position as a senior fellow at a conservative think tank. His new book is The Benefit and the Burden: Tax Reform - Why We Need It and What It Will Take.

Bill Moyers Essay: Occupying a Cause

The Moyers & Company team visited the Occupy Wall Street site several times between October and December in 2011 %u2014 visits that reveal real faces, real people, and a true common cause. In this premiere Bill Moyers Essay, Bill talks about their anger %

BILL MOYERS: Yesenia Barragan is working for her doctorate in Latin American history at Columbia University.

YESENIA BARRAGAN: We were able to gather enough resources, enough money within our family to save the house. So we like to say that we were the lucky ones. And I'm basically here because I don't want to live in a world where there are lucky ones and unlucky ones.

DANIEL LYNCH: My name is Daniel Lynch, I live in Manhattan. And in my spare time I try to trade stocks. I might even be center-right! And I still support this, and I want people to know that, right, 99 percent exactly, right? I've been worried for a long time about problems with wealth inequality in the country, income inequality, and I just wanted to throw my support a little. I don't march, I don't carry a sign. But I come down at night I talk to some people.

I believe in capitalism, I believe in capital markets. But unchecked like this, especially the way we have estate taxes, income taxes, it subverts capitalism, it becomes feudalism. Owners of capital are winning so much more than laborers, right capital it has no roots, right? To just deny that that's happening and not have a little bit of an activist tax policy about it, I think is naïve, it's destructive, and it's just absurd.

Notes:
1. Could this be the left's version of the tea party
2. They have a great slogan, "We are the 99%"
3. The movement is grassroots. Big money came into the tea party just as the unions are coming into the wall street protests now but the 'left is never as good as the right at this stuff'.
4. "What the tea party did was really big and really hard".
5. The tea party movement was aimed at the ballot box while this one is more about grievances so far.
Wall Street Protests: Understanding Your Opponents - Part 1 (Establishment Republicans)
Wall Street protestors have been labeled 'left of center' but both sides are looking to use the movement for their own purposes...

Willing to listen to people protesting can be trying on people who don't agree or are being paid to disagree. Problem is some people will agree and this will grow until it become something along lines of people fighting each other because they are in another party or protest group.

For example; the strong Republican (wall street related) response...
Wall Street Protests: Understanding Your Opponents - Part 2 (Class Warfare)
As Hermain Cain said in his CNN interview (in the last post), by protesting against the rich, occupy wallstreet protestors are committing class warfare. In other words, something that is true, i.e. class warfare of a few rich people (leaders of establishment republicans) against the rest of the population, is turned on its head (i.e. it has been re-framed, as Frank Luntz explains here).

The real class warfare is by the people who control the establishment republicans. All rich people are not involved (obviously).

Establishment Republicans are for corporations (linked to a few people who are often called the 'super rich') and they are against the poor/middle class such as the people represented by unions).

Wall Street Protests: Focusing On The Issues 1 - With Senator Bernie Sanders (An Independant who sits with the Democrats)
This interview, with Senator Bernie Sanders, has several strategies that will work providing there is transparency and are all implemented together.

[Note: I see this as a economic stabilizing/transitional strategy - Ron Paul opposes all income taxes on principal, however his strategy, like the one below, will only work if it is implemented as a full strategy. Doing one thing at a time(as opposed to, 'all at once'), while filling each bill with inefficiencies because of corporate influence... with the only public exposure of these problems through comedy news shows, won't work. ]

Did you know that Fox News *Literally* has the right to lie in its "news"?

Ever wonder why it is that Fox News can lie over and over again - yet continue to call itself "News"? It's because Fox News is a corporation - and ever since that 1886 Supreme Court case of Southern Pacific Railroad versus Santa Clara County when a rogue court reporter named JC Bancroft Davis slipped corporate personhood into the legal record - the courts have ruled time and time again that corporations - since they have all the rights that actual people have - could also lie just like people can.

Except for one time. Back in 1998 - a political activist named Mark Kasky sued Nike...

The Courts ALLOW News Media to Lie!
On February 14, a Florida Appeals court ruled there is absolutely nothing illegal about lying, concealing or distorting information by a major press organization.
Roger Ailes caught lying (Fox News CEO)
It was an incendiary allegation - and a mystery of great intrigue in the media world: After the publishing powerhouse Judith Regan was fired by HarperCollins in 2006, she claimed that a senior executive at its parent company, News Corporation, had encouraged her to lie two years earlier to federal investigators who were vetting Bernard B. Kerik for the job of homeland security secretary.

How to handle an audience and appeal to their feelings:
1. Body language tips,
2. Handling audience tips,
3. Creating a more positive phrase for 'drilling for oil' became 'energy exploration'. (inaccuracy doesn't matter as long as there is a sliver of fact - KISS principle, i.e'. keep it simple stupid),
4. 'climate change' as opposed to 'global warming' ,
5. 'simple truth' (not a lie as it contains a sliver of fact!),
6. 'you decide' to lock in the last manipulative phrase (most of the viewers decisions are based on the views of who they trust... even the books they read ),
7. 'buzz words' - words that people focus on opposed to facts,
8. Use 'simple truth' only once in a discussion or article ,
9. A criminal getting caught should apologize 3 times, "I'm sorry, I made a mistake, forgive me'
Overview of the GOP (Colbert Report backed by News Sources)
Notes/Summary:

1. Republican 'purity test' is basically 'anti-Obama',

2. Republicans believe unsubstantiated rumors,

3. No compromise on the debt ceiling,

4. Republicans have a record of re-naming things (called 're-frame' - see interview with Frank Luntz below).
Overview of "Socialism" by The Colbert Report (backed by news sources) | explorer9360 on Xanga
GOP Republicans have classified any help to anyone as 'socialism'.

However, That goes against the principles of Christianity and is more in-line with the fictional teachings of Ayn Rand. Ayn Rand's philosophy is of rational self interest and she states that the purpose of life is in pursuing your own happiness with NO regard for others well-being...
[Case Study] Political Nonsense of the Debt Ceiling "Debate" | explorer9360 on Xanga
Notes: "As soon as Republicans show some leg on raising taxes, it's over" There is no political incentive to do a good job on the economy, everything is focused on defeating the opposite side. Republicans won't raise taxes and Obama won't accept cuts on medicare without a tax increase "The dirty secret about the cuts is that they don't occur till 2013, which means its after the next election"...

In other words, congress can rewrite a policy before a default as they have allot of time, so the primary political goal has become to attack Obama (and each other) and NOT to fix the economy...
Who are the Koch Brothers?

Koch Brother connected to Keystone Pipeline
Koch company declared 'substantial interest' in Keystone XL pipeline: Document filed with Canada's Energy Board appears to cast doubt on claims by Koch Industries that it has no interest in the controversial pipeline.
The Keystone Pipeline creates ONLY a few temporary jobs (i.e. it's a pipeline... how many people do you need to manage the pipes in your house? None):
"The State Department said in a report to Congress yesterday that the pipeline would create 5,000 to 6,000 construction jobs during the two years needed to build the project, based on labor expenses TransCanada included in its application."
