Ocean Side & The Surrounding Area
A hidden delight awaiting discovery is nestled here in this idyllic setting. Somewhat removed from the busy traffic of Highway 101 this destination calls the weary traveller for rest and relaxation!
Ahhhh! What A Beautiful Place!
Time to relax!
Tide pools, sea stacks, and beaches beckon you to visit this astonishingly these idyllic settings.Oceanside is a beacon to the weary traveler. With its sandy beaches and rock formation who would ever doubt that this place is the place to be.
Sealions occasionally visit the shore at Oceanside but the main attraction would have to be the nesting birds at Three Arch Rock.
Surprisingly enough this valuable nesting site was used as a tourist attraction in the early 20th Century. One of the most destructive travesties occurred during this time as the tour boats to the rock formations sported hunters who would indiscriminately would fire upon the nesting birds destroying the population.
It was not until a brave photographer and a friend perched themselves in protest upon the rock formations. This eventually led to the protection of the site and the wildlife that needed it to survive.
There are several other nearby locations that are noteworthy.
Within the proximity of the beach in Oceanside is the Cape Meares Lighthouse and Cape Lookout.
The Cape Meares Lighthouse one of Oregon's famous Lighthouses is situated above the Pacific Ocean once warning boats of impending danger.
This vantage offers spectators a chance to see birds, whales & many rock formations.
An additional bonus at Cape Meares Lighthouse is the octopus tree.
As Oregon's largest Sitka Spruce candelabra, this tree is one of the many natural highlights that a visitor encounters when visiting this historic site!
Further South is the home of Cape Lookout.
Cape Lookout located on a sand spit is a place to remember. With wide vistas of the Pacific Ocean & situated in an unique enviroment there is much to explore on the many trails.
Witness the battle for dominance as the spruce, cedar and redwood compete for the sun, or watch for Whales, Sea lions and birds from its sandy shores. None the less you be surprised at what you might find!

Beach Combing!
Fill Those Pockets!
Beach combing at oceanside is a true delight. Among many of things you might find are agates, geodes and of course a fossil or two.Agates here are a variety of colors from orange to blue and even green. Keep a keen eye out for jasper and the like. These stone can be polished into the treasure that you are pursuing or keep them raw and natural like I do!
But remember digging into banks and the bluff is prohibited under Oregon State Law. Please report any archaeological finds to the state! We need these preserved and conserved properly.
