The oddball world of ottoblotto


Ottoblotto was the name of my dear dog and favorite companion of 17 years. I still miss him terribly. Aside from that, I write, draw, paint, collage, homeschool, and just generally try to take whatever comes my way without complaining too much.

This is my family. I am an old Christian woman with a white daughter, a black son, and a Jewish husband, which means there aren't a lot of holidays we don't celebrate. They try hard to keep me out of trouble.

My drawings are available on my website, ottoblotto.com, when I actually have ones to sell. Selling original art is a difficult way to make a living in this time, as so many people would prefer an inexpensive print that they can change whenever they remodel. So I have started to produce works in poster and card forms. You can check them out at my shops on Zazzle and Cafepress.

More than you really wanted to know, I'm sure

OK, these are random facts about me in no particular order of importance.
  • I once worked on a series of shows for Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.
  • I have a BFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Costume Design.
  • I used to sing hymns to my goat, Eunice, when I was milking her. Her favorite was How Firm a Foundation.
  • I have a MFA from Carnegie-Mellon University in Scene Design.
  • I used to be a member of the Guinea Fowl Breeders Association. I even attended one of their conventions.
  • I was Assistant Art Director on The Silence of the Lambs.
  • I am a notorious homebody.

I wrote a unit study for kids on chile peppers, and decided to expand that information into a series of chile pepper related lenses.

I spent two summers doing summer stock theatre at Montclair State College in Upper Montclair, NJ. While there, I made several trips into New York City. Anyway, I thought I'd put all those years of architectural history classes in college to good use.

I like to cook. I cook almost every day, and almost every meal. I like to try new foods within reason, so I did some lenses on cooking with flowers. They also have lots of growing information, too, if you like that sort of thing.

I did some lenses around bicycling. I like to ride. I don't race. I don't push myself. I just enjoy riding around with my kids. I really like the Bicycle Science one; it has a lot of good stuff.

Very close to my heart

I've done some lenses that were, for various reasons, very close to my heart. Two of them have to do with my father's recent passing. If I could get you to read any lens, it would be Gifts for Grieving Families.

  • I met my husband on a movie set. [Chasers]
  • I have never owned a dog that wasn't a dachshund.
  • I am a trained Stephen Minister.
  • I have traveled through much of northern Europe. I'm done traveling.
  • I did missions work in Kenya.
  • I love grits with a little garlic powder. Maybe more than a little.
  • Cheese over chocolate any day.
  • I've already died once. I was remarkably OK with it, although I'm glad I pulled through and get to hang out here a bit longer.

OK, I don't dance, but I aspire to taking ballroom dance lessons someday if I ever have any money. Since that seems unlikely just now, I did these lenses as one-stop-shopping for ballroom dance music and dance lessons. Maybe someday...

Something old, something new

I have a bunch of shops on Zazzle. They offer some different products, so I've done some designs for them that are really unique. I recently began doing some very focused shops, which I can afford to do since Zazzle's stores are free.

In this ottoblotto shop, the majority of my designs are for skateboards and shoes, which require some rethinking of the design process because the shapes are so unique.
Biblical T-Shirts
Biblical T-Shirts has designs based primarily on Old and New Testament scriptures. In several cases, the scriptures are translated into numerous languages, so if you are looking for John 3:16 in Icelandic, this is the place to go.
Live Simply
Recycling, vegetarian, vegan, and a host of other designs can be found in the Live Simply store.
Sun and Shadows
The Sun and Shadows shop explores sun images in a lot of different forms.

A Total Flake contains snowflakes and winter images.
