Ode to Dad

My Dad,
An amazing man that filled my heart and mind with a thousand magical childhood memories, solid as a rock, always happy, never letting life get him down ( even when he was very poorly ).

The admiration i still feel for my Dad knows no bounds and he was always and will continue to be my hero, my mentor, my inspiration.

The following Poem is one that I wrote for his 60th birthday and was my special gift to him, I now feel able to share it with all of you as a tribute to my Dad for fathers day.

If you want to see more about my amazing Dad check out my How to draw Erno the magic miner lens, as I have based some of my childrens stories on my amazing dad.

Ode to Dad

For Fathers Day and Forever

As I sit with my paper and pen,
thinking of memories, way back when,
I was just your little lad,
you were strong and proud, my Dad.
You taught me how to fly a kite,
Make a go-cart, to ride my bike.
Took us on walks, went black berrying,
finding mushrooms and a fresh water spring.
We went to fish with rod and reel,
over the bridge and caught an eel.
To the ancient spa, down old dirt tracks,
you helped us catch those stickle backs.
Walks you'd take, you threw, they'd catch,
your dogs Meg, Lassie and our Patch.
Your love for animals knew no bounds
and didn't stop at kids and hounds.
For your horses you made a pony trap,
riding proudly along in your old flat cap.
Good at DIY you would always say,
"I'm going to sell all my tools one day!"
Fixing cars, sometimes you'd spend,
the best part of a whole weekend.
Made for us Sword,Shield,Arrows & Bow,
How you made time we'll never know.
In winter you built us Snowmen, took us sledging down the hill,
the ice cold wind whistling by us, it was such a thrill.
Ice skating on the pond, I fell through, let out a shout!
You ran across the ice, reached in and pulled me out.
In summer brought home a motor bike, showed us how to ride it,
on my first try I hit a bush and ended up inside it!
The Miners holiday camp was where we went to stay,
one week each year in summer for our holiday.
We'd search for crabs, swim in the pool,
Hot summer days, it was so cool!
At the fires side in your rocking chair,
carving walking sticks, with thought and care.
On a turnip, fresh from fields at Halloween,
you'd cut out a face make it look mean.
Took us to see films and to swim at the baths,
wrestled and tickled us, we had such laughs.

There were many more memories that I have as a lad,
Made far more special because you were my Dad.
To the most amazing Dad ever !!

Summer of '90' Me and Dad on his Bombadier

Heres a picture of Me and my Dad sat on his Bombadier.
Dad had a real passion for motor bikes and was in the in the process of rebuilding a 1933 B.S.A. Sloper, unfortunately this was a project he never finished.

Miss You Dad

Where are you dad, where have you gone?

You know you were the only one.

Lifting me up when I was down,

Making me smile instead of frown.

Then one day, not so long ago

You couldn't stay you had to go.

Faced each day chin up with pride,

Buried the pain deep down inside.

Fought so hard and finally lost,

This final fight with such a cost.

Watched helpless as you slipped away,

The only words that I could say,

It's ok Dad now you can rest

This illness had been such a test,

I miss you with each passing day,

And more than any words can say.

A Tribute to all Dads
