When you have "a case of the Mondays" and need a cure STAT

Depending on how laid back your work environment is and if your co-workers have a resilient sense of humor, office pranks may abound as a source of stress-relief or an exercise in team-building. April 1 may fall on a Sunday in 2012, but it's definitely on a Monday in 2013. Either way, that first Monday in April may be a good time to have a little fun and shake off those winter blues or the general malaise of Mondays. On this lens, you will find some good-natured office pranks that I have witnessed, executed or fallen victim to, but all have led to hearty chuckles and made it on to the list of Best Office Pranks.

Warning: Do not try this at your place of employment if you have any lingering doubt as to whether your good-fun will be understood as such.

Best Computer Pranks

Computers are so much a part of our daily lives that we tend to freak out a little when they don't work the way we expect. Here are the best computer-related pranks that I've run across so far:

1. Put tape over the laser light on the bottom of co-worker's mouse. The tape will prevent the cursor from moving when he or she goes to use mouse. Enjoy his or her reaction as they try to figure this one out. Jump in and save them before they call the IT department...or don't.
2. Replace mouse with origami mouse. Someone got me with this years ago but I still have that little paper mouse. So clever.
3. If you have access to a co-worker's CPU or docking station, unplug the keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor or any combination of the above. My husband likes to get his buddy at work with this one, but that's because his friend always has a good laugh at himself when he realizes the problem. Again, be a responsible prankster and help out your friends before they get too frustrated to enjoy the prank with you.

Our office LOVES the pie-in-the-face gag. It works best when the person-to-be-pied doesn't see it coming. This video shows how we said farewell to one of our office buddies before he moved on to bigger and better things.

Don't Get "Foiled" Again...

A few birthday pranksters "foiled" a co-worker's desk in honor of his special day. Waste not: Recycle your spent foil.

Nerf Wars

In our office, just about everyone is armed with a Nerf gun of some ilk. You never know when an all-out Nerf War might erupt, so I find it best to be prepared with plenty of ammo.
