Remind Employees of Office Safety
The first part of this Alphabetical Listing is by subject matter. Within each major subject heading the bulletins are listed alphabetically. Safety and Health Information Bulletins (SHIBs) are one tool OSHA uses to inform internal staff and the public of significant occupational safety and health issues concerning hazard recognition, evaluation, and control in the workplace and at emergency response sites.
Safety in the Office
The following are some examples of common hazards and what you can do to prevent them from becoming accidents. Watch for unsafe conditions such as defective equipment, burned out lights, loose steps, torn carpet, etc and report them to your supervisor immediately. Accidents do happen in the office. Few office workers realize that they are twice as likely to be injured in a fall as a non-office worker. Nationally, only automobile accidents out number falls as the leading cause of all accidents. In the office slips, trips and falls are the number one cause of disabling injuries.
U.S. Bureau of Labor - Additional OSHA Office Safety Statistics
The Injuries, Illnesses, and Fatalities (IIF) program provides annual information on the rate and number of work related injuries, illnesses, and fatal injuries, and how these statistics vary by incident, industry, geography, occupation, and other characteristics.
Inspection Report and more. When combined with the mandatory package provides complete coverage for any business.
OSHA Sends Mixed Message On Home Office Safety
With the labor secretary admitting the rules are unclear, it appears the new OSHA's commitment to updating its fuzzy and unclear standards failed a major 21st century test. Getting mixed messages from OSHA does not come as a surprise to employers. Businesses have strong incentives to maintain safe and healthy workplaces, yet OSHA's aggressive rulemaking continues to be based on an archaic understanding of the modern work force and the desire for employers to keep employees happy, safe and healthy. Not too long ago, OSHA defenders stormed Capitol Hill to defend the agency from slurs of Big Brotherism. With the snap of a finger and a new 1995 Republican Congress, the new OSHA was born.
Occupational Safety & Health Standards
For your convenience, the OSHA standards are on the World Wide Web and can be accessed by clicking the above link address. he General Industry Standards are in 29CFR1910 and cover all other activities in the work place, including routine maintenance, adjustments, production, and other tasks. The Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards provide safety and health rules that are recognized as providing protection for employees performing most types of duties.
