Office Coffee Machine Etiquette
"Don't let the coffee machine be the first thing that winds you up on a Monday morning"
Ok so your new office coffee machine gets wheeled in, the kettle gets
ditched and you all marvel at and your latest acquisition.
Promising all the flavours of any high street cafe, break time will never be the same again.
Fast forward one week, the honeymoon period is over. Colleagues moan about co workers not wiping down the machine, not re-filling it and the drip tray has overfilled leaving streaks of coffee trails down the side of the once pristine display counter. No one takes sole responsibility for cleaning it - "That's not my job"; "I didn't do a degree in accounts to clean coffee machines" the list goes on.
It's a common problem re-told across lots of offices with automatic coffee machines, but you can stop WW3 breaking out and return harmony and here's how.
The office manager communicates to the whole office that the coffee machine stays on the condition than everyone using it adheres to the following guidelines:
1. Always wipe down the machine after use
2. Refill the machine - don't leave it on empty.
3. If the coffee machine spits out the wrong flavour avoid the temptation of pouring it into the drip tray
4. If your coffee machine has a steam arm clean it, bacteria loves milk
5. If the machine has a bin for waste products and it fills up empty it.
