Office Pranks to make the day more fun

The 9 to 5 grind, how will you make it through another 8 hours? A few harmless office pranks can really help make the time pass faster and freshen the mood at the office.

I am a long time prankster and the folks I work with never know what I am going to do next! I have mastered the art of the office prank. Everyone I work with expects me to do something, they just don't know what I will do next and when I will do it.

Since I work in local government, I have to be careful what I do. We are always in the public eye. I have to be more creative than just putting post it notes everywhere on a co-workers desk. I have to be sure the public won't see what is going on.

I will share with you some of my favorite pranks. I will also let you in on the times one of my co-workers got me back! I love office pranks and I love to see everyone laugh. Keep it clean and safe and have fun.

Funny Office Pranks

These are easy and can be pulled off just about anytime.

Sometimes you need a funny office prank that is quick and easy to pull off. Some of these work especially well if everyone just has desks instead of cubicles like at my office. This way everyone can easily see what is going on, except of course for you victim. Some of these tricks can be done either in the open office arrangement or in cubicles. The important part is these are really quick and easy and do not really require much if any set up, they can be done on the spur of the moment.

1. Bluetooth Mouse and Keyboard Prank. This one is really easy if you can do it casually and you know that one of your co-workers is especially trusting or gullible. If they have the little bluetooth receiver thing plugged into a USB port on the monitor, simply unplug it when you walk by. When their mouse or keyboard stops working it can drive them nuts trying to figure it out. If it is plugged into the tower, then of course you have to wait until they are away from their desk to unplug it. Either way, I just casually lay the receiver down on the desk and walk away to watch the fun!

2. Desk Drawer Scare. This one I did to one of the ladies in the office that I knew would get a shock from the stunt but would appreciate the humor in it. I have a very realistic looking fake snake that I placed in her desk drawer on top of everything else. Later when she opened the drawer she let out a little shreik and laughed along with everyone else in the office. She got me back awhile later, see the revenge below for that story!

3. Breakroom Soak. If there is a sink in the breakroom this is lots of fun. All you need to do is just go to the sprayer hose on the sink and tape the button down with invisible tape. Make sure the sprayer is pointing toward where you victim will be standing when they turn on the faucet. Water will spray from the sprayer and your victim jumps back stunned. On top of it all they come back with a wet spot on their shirt and pants.

4. Send Unwanted Phone Calls. Once in awhile we get a phone call that is from an automatic dialer and just plays a recorded message. As soon as you get this kind of phone call, transfer it to someone else in the office.

5. Name Plate Swap. All you need to do here is just show up to work a few minutes early or stay a little late. When everyone else is gone swap out everyones name plate. It may take half the morning for anyone to notice but when they all notice that they are someone else the laughing begins.

Mouse Trap Monitor Office Prank

What a surprise!

I love this one, takes a bit of set up so you will have to come in early or stay late but well worth the effort.

There are plenty of prank books out there, but this is the best. This book gives the detailed step by step instruction that most do not. I've tried other resources, but this book makes its easy. What I like the most are how easy some of the pranks are- for the prankster with limited time this book is a must.

This book is full of great ideas if you want to pull a prank on someone or get revenge for a prank that was pulled on you.

Office Pranks for the Advanced Prankster

These require more set up but are worth it for the laughs.

If you think you are ready to step up the level of levity, then here are some advanced office pranks. They require more work, but can be a ton of fun.

1. Bungee Cord Desk Drawer. Take a short bungee cord (the kind with hooks on each end), hook it to the back of someones desk drawer then stretch it to a solid point somewhere unseen. When they open the drawer, then tension will cause it to snap back and scare the hell out of them.

2. Bungee Cord Door. A variation of the above, this is great for a manager that you know you can get along with good enough to prank. You need a bigger bungee cord and a piece of 2 x 4 lumber. The 2 x 4 needs to be a few inches wider than the door to their office. You will need a helper with this one. When they are in the office with the door shut have your helper hold the 2 x 4 across the doorframe while you quietly wrap the bungee around the doorknob and 2 x 4. When your manager opens the door, it will of course snap back shut. You do need to be sure the door opens into the office for this to work.

3. Ghostly Office Accessories. This one is tricky to pull off but it is great if you can do it. Tie a long length of invisible fishing line to someone's stapler, or mouse cord, pencil holder or whatever you think you can get away with. Route the fishing line back to your desk keeping it hidden from view as much as possible. When your victim is working, just tug gently at the line to make the object move slightly. Tug a little more. When you have their attention and they are wondering, "Did my stapler just move on its own?" Give the fishing line a good tug and cause the object to move across the desk and onto the floor! This can get a really fun reaction.

When Revenge has been Inflicted Upon Me!

If you are going to prank others, expect them to return the favor!

Once in awhile my victims will get revenge on me! This is even more fun for me than pulling a prank on them.

Remember, if you are going to pull pranks on others in your office expect them to return the favor. This is all part of the fun.

The best revenge ever enacted upon me was by the woman that I scared with a fake snake in her drawer. Knowing that I am afraid of spiders, she brought a very realistic looking (and large) rubber spider to work. I had left my desk for a few minutes and that is when she set me up.

The prank went over better than she had expected. My office chair is black leather, the spider was the same color of black. She placed the spider on my chair near the front in the center. She expected me to pull my chair out and see the spider right away. Well this isn't quite how it happened.

When I pulled my chair out, I didn't notice the spider. I sat down in my chair and went on with my work suspecting nothing was up. A few minutes later I caught a glimpse of something between my legs in the chair. You know it, it was this giant tarantula looking spider.

Needless to say, it scared the crap out of me. I jumped up out of my chair, ran across the room all the while letting loose with a string of words that are not appropriate for the office! Everyone around me laughed started laughing so hard they nearly fell out of their chairs. I then realized it was a fake spider and that she had gotten her revenge! I laughed so hard I nearly split my side. It couldn't have gone any better if I had seen the spider before I sat down.
