What A Year! From Newbie to Giant Squid

July 18, 2008 - The Day I Joined Squidoo

It has been one year since I joined Squidoo. I have been reflecting about what has happened since that date and am amazed at how my life has changed in just one year.

I can not look back without remembering those who are responsible for my getting this far on Squidoo and becoming a Giant Squid therefore this lens is dedicated to the Squidoo Community.

Yes, Squidoo has changed my life and in a positive way. I can't begin to list all the lensmasters who have made this possible so this is one big THANK YOU to the whole Squidoo Community.

Joan4 Convinced Me To Join Squidoo

Joan4 is my sister

Joan's bio reads that she joined in 2007 but she actually did not begin to create lenses and become a part of Squidoo until May of 2008. By the time she convinced me to join, she had already made a reputation for herself and had become a well known lensmaster. She shared her knowledge and her Squidoo friends with me.

I realize that I had an easy road in the beginning because of Joan and I actually just rode in on her skirt tail. She did all the studying and socializing and then shared that with me. She was so patient and helped me in every way. Joan stressed over and over again the importance of being a part of this great community.

It did not take long for me to realize that she was a well respected lensmaster and for once in my life, I needed to listen to her which I did. It reminded me of when we went to Church Camp as children. One year she was a counselor and all my friends wanted to be in Joan's cabin, sit by Joan and be in her group. I didn't want to have anything to do with her but soon found out that if I was going to have any fun, I needed to join my friends in hanging around my sister.

So you see, it didn't surprise me when Mimi created a lens about Joan and it was followed with Kate making one. Please take time to read these if you haven't already.

I am proud to be Joan4's little sister and appreciate all she has done to help make my Squidoo Experience a very positive one.

I remember Joan telling me to be sure to visit the forum everyday and to learn from other lensmasters. There were certain lensmasters who stand out as being so kind and helpful. Here a some of them.

I asked so many dumb questions on SquidU but was never made to feel dumb. I appreciate all these lensmasters taking time to make me feel welcome on Squidoo. Some of these lensmasters are no longer around or active but I just had to list them anyway. They were all such an important part of those first few months.

Note: It has now been 2 yrs since I started with Squidoo. Time sure does fly when you're having fun!
Update: July 2011 - 3 yrs for me and I am still enjoying Squidoo and have 163 lenses to date.
