One of the Best Bands Currently Working
Okkervil River is something special. It's not flavor-of-the-week indie fare. Nor is it a pop phenomenon. It is, however, a band who has managed to do what few throughout history have, and that is using music as a method of exposing humanity. All the triumphs and all the failures. And not to just show it on a surface level, but to really dig and find just what the common threads are that hold the weave of human existence together.

Three reasons to love Okkervil River
1. Will Sheff, the guitarist and lead singer, is the modern incarnation of lyrical genius. Like Bob Dylan before him, he is able to tap in to the core truths of the human condition: pain, loss, elation, disappointment, hope, salvation. His voice encompasses all of this raw emotion, like a nerve laid bare.

because we both have loved, have lost, and are alone.
Your face's falling tears,
to me they're lovely and they're dear,
though you don't love me and it's clear
that I will never see you in my arms.
There's no room in your heart
for even this finely-sharpened dart;

it isn't so.
2. Their music ranges from hummable pop to classic folk. Each album is distinct from the next and never becomes a blur of singles.
3. They are refreshing in their straightforwardness. A stiff breeze in the muggy climate that is modern music.
