Beautiful story - my mother in law lived in her own home doing her laundry, cleaning and cooking until she caught pneumonia and we lost her at 93. If not for the sudden illness, I'm sure Millie would have lived to see 100. I love the tree metaphor ... so true.

I love how you worked the trees into the story of your aunt. What a lovely tribute. I worked with many wonderful older people during my years as a social worker. Each one was truly special, even the "grumpy" ones.

Blessed by a Squid Angel. (The captchka word is "delightful." I couldn't have said it better myself.)

This is so great: she looks fantastic, optimistic and healthy. She aged so beautifully.
I am glad you was there, you keep her image with you forever.
I am living with my Mother which is 95, and I know the joy of having her around.
    Thanks

Wonderful Kate... we have pictures of all of our family with my Grandmother Sitton on her 100th birthday! She lived another two years and like your Aunt Helen per MiMi you could see a life well lived etched in her face with her bright eyes and smile!

I just soooo love lenses like this, that are written "from the heart" as our dear Chef Friend says! They also contribute to family history, which is another aspect I enjoy.

I wonder what your Aunt Helen's nephew will make of the fact that when he is older he will look back and see himself in a photo with someone who was born in 1909? I say this because there is a photo of me with my Great Grandmother who was born in the 1850s!

SquidAngel Blessings for a beautiful, touching and heart warming lens.

Filled with memories of your Dad, Kate - how Helen reflects his image and spirit.
And Kirsten!! ....her gifts - so personally precious. Your reference to trees is so
apt and the ash tree is a marvel of strength and stability - good metaphor.
    love to you

This is an amazing tribute to Aunt Helen! I'm sure she is quite honored to have this tangible tribute to her remarkable life! Oh, to think of living to 100.

Yes, Kate, I just love your Aunt Helen and you are so lucky to have her around for so long and she is lucky to have you. I just love the way you did this lens with the tree photo and references. Great work!

    Kate,
This was a great article about your Aunt Helen and the old Ash tree. Your Aunt Helen reminds me of my late grandmother with her blue hair. You are right about her eyes. They are the mirror of the soul because she has lived and seen so much over the past 100 years, and she has such wisdom to bestow upon you. Enjoy your aunt as long as you can. You will miss her more than you can imagine when she is gone. A great lens! Five stars

Your Aunt Helen is delightful! It's hard to imagine being 100 years young! It is easy to see that she is a very kind and loving person. Beautiful lens honoring your Aunt Helen. Happy Birthday, Aunt Helen! Blessed by a joyful SquidAngel!
