Historic Decor and Interior Decorating Tips for Period Homes
Ranked #4,870 in Arts & Design, #77,152 overall
The Home Page for All of Our Period Interior Design and Decorating Info & DIY Pages
We have created a number of squidoo pages focusing on home decorating, with a particular emphasis on historic fabrics and wallcoverings for period homes, which is our specialty and our passion.
This page gathers all of our topics related to historic decorating period styles together in one place and serves as a gateway to all of them -- some serious, some fun, and some a bit of both. From Arts & Crafts to Victorian, Neoclassical to Retro, you'll find what you need and need to know here.
We are always planning and adding new lenses, so please feel free to let us know what you think of these and please ask if you have a specific area you would like us to address.
You can see all of our pages about general and DIY interior design topics such as color, coordinating patterns, and eco-friendly decorating here or by clicking the link below.
We will update this page as we add more historic period home decorating lenses, so please check back or follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates, news, and special offers.

Style confused
Jun 2, 2012 @ 5:18 am | delete
- We're beginning restorations of a late 18th/early 19th century stone farmhouse in south central PA that underwent a late Victorian remodel (wall opened into archway, single panes of glass put in windows). I'd like to decorate to the early American style rather than Victorian. I've seen the style referred to here, but did not find a lens dedicated to it. What does this look like? The house has one Georgian corner fireplace two Federal style fireplaces with built in cupboards beside, and a large walk-in cooking hearth. We've been told it is a transitional house. Is it acceptable to decorate to an earlier era when the house has several later Victorian elements?

- Hi. A good place to start would be "99 Historic Homes of Indiana: A Look Inside " by Bill Shaw and "Lingering Spirit: A Photographic Tribute to Indiana's Forgotten Places." Don't remember the entire title or the author on that one but you should have no trouble finding it with that much. Good luck and let me know how it turns out. ---Chazz
