Collectibles: A little about my collecting days, dealer days, and sites
I've been working on getting this page set up as a hub to my various sites. Well, there's not that many, but it's pretty cool to collect them all in one spot. As you'll see following this intro there are two informational sites that I run, one about magazine back issues, the other all about early movie stars and collectibles. Also I run two stores online, each with unique content - no items are crosslisted. One is my eBay Store and the other is my eventual eBay escape hatch when that rate hike comes along that finally pushes me off the ledge!
I started out collecting baseball cards and was a dealer at card shows by my early teens back in the 80's. I always come back to sports collectibles in one form or another, but along the way I've collected (and usually sold!) books, old toys and games, stamps, comic books, and especially movie collectibles and magazine back issues. They are the focus of this lens.
For more of my collecting/dealer biography please see the About Us page on my movie collectibles site.

And here's an earlier interview, also about magazine collecting, conducted by Crystal Schwanke over at LoveToKnow.com.
Also NEW! -- Introducing the magawiki
There's a brand new (as of August 2007) part of things-and-other-stuff.com called the magawiki, which I've been working on for a few months and am now unveiling since I've got a few hundred pages up. Ever see an old magazine for sale on eBay without any details? Look intriguing? Well, hop on over to the magawiki, and if I've sold that specific issue before you'll be able to look up the complete contents on my new site! Currently growing a little bit day by day, enjoy! My collectible sites
- things-and-other-stuff.com - Movie Stars & Collectibles Info
- This was my first site featuring information on classic stars, films and especially collectibles from the days of the Silents through the Golden Age of Movies.
- Collecting Old Magazines ... All about magazine back issues and how to collect.
- Another informational site that I run featuring information on collecting old magazine back issues plus histories of several of the publications themselves.
- My eBay Store - Collecting Old Magazines
- This is my eBay Store focusing on magazine back issues, movie cards and collectibles and sports collectibles. Everything vintage and original. I've been eBay since 2000, accumulated over 8,500 feedbacks with very close to a 100% rating (well, it actually was 100% before they started tinkering with the feedback, but 99.9% isn't bad either!)
Reader Feedback
Feel free to post your own, I'd love to hear from you!
There's plenty more below this section, so feel free to keep reading before you come back and give your feedback. I did want to move this module up the page a little though so you wouldn't have to hunt too much if you were looking for it!

-
- @redINKdiary When were you last in NY, Henrietta? It's a lot better than it used to be depending on when you were there.
-
- @GreenSpotting Right, got you
-
- @GreenSpotting Looks pretty good to me. Point to it from inside Facebook I assume you mean.
-
- @GreenSpotting I let BISI sit for 8 months after I 1st tried it. Forgot I even had acct when I went back. It whiffed but got another at-bat
-
- @inkfrog Got ya, thanks! Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on anything :)
-
- @GreenSpotting That's me too, hey I'm taking these pitches to help myself, why would I sabotage that? Self-rule.
-
- @inkfrog That's what I thought, okay. So basically this is a promotion to reach ebayers who don't use IF (which is cool too!)
-
- @eBayAnorak Yeah, I'm very old school w/the bookkeeping myself, so looking forward to trying free, eBay based solution.
-
- @GreenSpotting Baseball fan, often use a rule of 3 strikes and you're out, I'll consider a couple of foul tips and try this again though.
-
- @ebay_andy Sorry, sorry, sorry, NOT GTC, but 3-day listings, mistyped there.
-
- @ebay_andy GTC but I relist through selling manager after expiration. Most expired FP to Store, some Store back to FP to juice listings.
-
- @eBayAnorak ...good to know it actually will work eventually though, thanks!
-
- @eBayAnorak Thanks for encouragement. I'll give a 4th shot at it tonight when I walk away from the desk for the day.
-
- @aswas Deb, any difference w/this and doing insurance straight from Inkfrog ... which I think is cheaper, right? Extra coverage, etc?
-
- All right, wanted to try Outright app on ebay, have tried 3 times to sync w/eBay since last night, all fails. Just about to abandon.

Antique Trader Vintage Magazines Price Guide
Magazine collectors have to have this -- mine is dog-eared and filled with my own annotations. I've made some good money hunting items down that were listed in this guide!
The Magazine in America, 1741-1990
Great read about the history of magazine publishing in the U.S. Along with the next title I used it for a lot of my research and I run into familiar lines from it on other sites too.
MAGAZINES IN 20TH CENT
Another great read. This and the Tebbel book above combine to give a pretty complete history of magazines in the U.S.
Hollywood Movie Stills: The Golden Age
They probably published it to share the photos, but it was the text that elevates this one onto this list.
