Florence in Vintage Postcards

Florence is one of the most visited cities in Italy, its main attractions being its museums, palaces, and churches which house some of the greatest art treasures in the world. Popular sites include the Cathedral, the Baptistry, the Uffizi, the Bargello, and the Accademia, whilst the churches of Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce are art galleries in their own right, and the library of San Lorenzo contains a magnificent exhibition of Michelangelo's architectural work. Don't miss the chance to walk on the Ponte Vecchio which crosses the Arno, and of course to see Giotto's Campanile by the Cathedral.
All the vintage postcards in our collection are between 50 and 100 years old. You may see them all by following the link to Postcards of the Past just below.

The Baptistry

The Baptistry

The octagonal Baptistry stands in front of the Duomo and is one of the oldest buildings in the city. Of particular note are the three sets of bronze doors. Those to the south were designed by Andrea Pisano and those to the north and east by Lorenzo Ghiberti. Michelangelo called Ghiberti's east doors "The Gates of Paradise".
