Savannah is a city in the south-east of the state of Georgia in the USA. It is located on the Savannah river and was the colonial capital of the state. Established in 1733, the city was the colonial capital of the Province of Georgia and later the first state capital of Georgia. The downtown area, which includes the Savannah Historic District, the Savannah Victorian Historic District and 22 parklike squares, is one of the largest National Historic Landmark Districts in the United States, and as a result the city receives millions of visitors every year. The current (2008) population is about 130,000.
