Rhodes Medieval Town
For those who like medieval cities and castles Rhodes is an ideal choice to combine vacations with exploration. The ambience of the old city and the stories about knights and battles could enchant anybody, let alone history lovers...
Rhodes Old Town
You should never leave the island without exploring Rhodes Old Town! Vehicles are not allowed inside the medieval town, only cars with a special permit so you can understand that it would be quite pleasant to walk around these cobbled streets. UNESCO has declared the Old Town a World Heritage Site in order to prevent plans such as widening the streets for cars and building a ring road. While you're there visit the Clock tower where you should climb up the second floor and enjoy the panoramic view of the town which is absolutely fabulous! The tower was built in 1851 on the foundations of the Collachium's former watchtower.
Ath the western part of the town there is a Turkish quarter with a fountain in every square and a bazaar. There is also a Jewish Quarter with Byzantine churches hidden among the alleys and the square of Jewish martyrs which is beautiful.
If you want to stay inside the city there are quite a few Old Town Hotels. As soon as you choose your accommodation grab your Rhodes Travel Guide and start the exploration!
