An Old-Fashioned Halloween
Remember Halloween in the Good Old Days?
Halloween was a lot more fun in the Good Old Days when we didn't have to worry about booby-trapped candy and sexual predators. Families shared wholesome activities together and with their community for this October holiday.
Those were the days when everyone made their own costumes and bobbed for apples at the neighborhood gathering. You can still do this. Forget about buying a pricey Halloween costume and go the old-fashioned way this Halloween. Here are some Halloween activities and decorations from the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s.
The photo is my mom. I'm guessing it was in the 1940s or 50s.1930s Halloween Costumes

The author, Gail and her big sister, Melba McGhee in their clown costumes. They attended a school party in Teterville, KS. Their mom, Ruth McGhee, sewed the clown costumes for them. Read the excerpt from my mother's book below to find out why she's looking so grouchy.

- omg that's so terrible, I actually remember bobbing for apples, shows my age, as your lens states "old" Halloween. hah! Forgot about that. Wonder why we haven't done that since.

- What a very unique idea for a lens! I loved all the pictures of vintage costumes. I don't go quite as far back as most of the pictures but I do remember the days when you would use a sheet or other item you had around the house to make your Halloween costume.

- Hi vallain,
I enjoyed reading your spooky lense! I really like the vintage cards.
Those were darring days, or nights I should say. We would be sent out into the night with masks that you could not see or breathe through, paper sacks that would bust after holding about a pound or two of heavy candy, and the only light were from porches or the moon and stars ~ no flashlights at all . . . that was spooky . . . and so fun! =^..^=
