Children's character backpacks seem to be made to self-destruct so you'll have to replace them. I'm hoping to attach a character mousepad to a sturdy backpack for next fall, but I'm not sure how to do it. Not sure if I can sew through it or whether I should use glue, but I'm pretty determined to find a way to make it work.

Well, since I have a hard time letting go of anything, my old mouse pads end up in a box together with other computer stuff I used to use. Some of the pads are not something I would want to display (like a place mat). But, putting them underneath potted plants sounds possible. You've given me some good ideas! 5*

What a useful lens, I am always throwing away my old mouse pads. And I go through them quick...no idea why. Now, I kinda want to need a new one so I can use some of these tips on the old one ;)

What great ideas for using old mouse pads. I think I would use them to cut into puzzles for kids to put back together. I wonder if it's possible to cut them in the shape of letters to use for learning to read?

I love your lenses as well.

These are great ideas...I've had the same mouse pad for 15 years, though!

  • Frankster Feb 14, 2009 @ 2:08 pm | delete
Great ideas here. I'm so glad I read this. I have a pad that I was going to try to give away but you got me thinking, I can use it under the cat bed on top of the tv. It slides off sometimes but that will hold it in place. Thanks for getting me thinking! 5 stars, favorite and I'm a FAN! Bear hugs, Frankster aka Bearmeister aka Cat-Woman

Michelle, you have loads of helpful links here! Thanks for doing the legwork!
I've lenrolled this to my three recycling/crafts lenses: Fun with Boxes, Fun with Fabric, and Fun with Cans.

I love the idea of creating mousepads, and I created a product line at Zazzle called "Heart to Heart." I took digital images of one of my grandma's quilts, and am using them there. Here's a mousepad as an example. Mousepads that are personalized are so much more fun than buying them.

    Super lens!

I enjoy any ideas that lead to using something in other ways before carlessly throwing them away.
  • dc64 Nov 8, 2008 @ 10:25 pm | delete
I use my mouse pad to open tough jars. It's not an old mouse pad, it's the one I still use for my mouse, but it grips the jar so darn well!

What a very useful lens of ideas! I had no idea that there were so many uses for old mousepads. Thank you; this is a very nice resource!

This is a fun idea for re-using a mouse pad. There's just plenty of ways of what we can do with this kind of material. I suggest a mouse pad can also be use to make a mask for Halloween or in any occasion.

    5 stars for you. :)

Take some time visiting my lens. Thanks.

We have marketing people bring us mousepads all the time with their logos. We keep them by the microwave - pot holders!
