Old Sacramento - Like Being in an "Old West" Movie!
The part of Sacramento, California, next to the Sacramento River, called "Old Sacramento" is a California State Historic Park. And it doesn't take long walking through the streets of Old Sacramento to see the historic significance of this area of the U.S.
Most of the buildings here represent the structures of the early days of the "Gold Rush"--historic buildings include
- the 1849 Eagle Theater
- the 1853 B.F. Hastings Building (former home of the California Supreme Court)
- the 1855 Big Four Building
Old Sacramento also had been the western-most station for
- the Pony Express Postal System
- the first Transcontinental Railroad
- the transcontinental telegraph system

- I took my son to Old Sacramento as part of our extended home school field trip, which also included the State Capitol Building and the Blue Diamond Almond Factory. We loved the Railroad Museum. My son also bought the equipment he needed to pan for gold in one of the Old Town stores, and then he panned for gold in the Sacramento River behind our motel.
