When can I move my child into a bed? 

Once your child is able to climb out of his crib, it is time to move him into a toddler bed. If your child is three feet tall, you may want to move him to a toddler bed even if he isn't climbing out of his crib. The usual age is about eighteen months to two years. Moving to a toddler bed can be stressful for many children and it is a significant milestone in their development. Some tips to ease the transition to a toddler bed include:

• Let her be involved in picking out the new bed and if possible, let her pick out some new bedding with her favorite characters on it and then put these on her new bed.
• Put the new bed in her room for a few months to help her get used to it
• Start her bedtime routine in her new toddler bed and then, if she wants, move her to her crib when she is finally ready to go to sleep.
• Let her take her daytime naps in the toddler bed
• Take as many things from her crib and continue to use them in her bed and as part of her bedtime routine
• Let her sleep on the crib mattress on the floor for a few nights
• Move the new bed into the position in the room that her crib was in, but you would likely have to take her crib down first

Definitions of fabric weaves:

Some of the more commonly-used weaves in kids bedding sheets are:

Percale: a closely woven, plain weave, spun fabric made from both carded and combed cotton. Percale sheeting is the finest available. The high tread count gives the fabric a silk-like feel.

Flannel: a soft, medium weight plain or twill weave fabric, usually made of cotton with a napped finish on one or both sides. The raised surface provides a fluffy appearance and supper soft, cozy feel. Great for warmth during the cold winter months.

Jersey: a plain stitch knitted cloth. The fabric is knitted in circular, flatbed or warp knitted methods. Very elastic with good draping qualities.

Sateen: a weave construction that has more yarn surface on the face of the cloth than other basic weaves giving a softer hand and more lustrous look.

All About Olive Kids Comforters:

Our kids comforters have four components; the comforter face (the comforter top), the comforter reverse, the fill and the binding.

The front and back of the comforters are made from printed cotton fabric. Our colorful fabrics have as much as twelve colors. Each color is cut from a screen and printed individually. It takes amazing technical achievement to keep the precise registration of the colors, as fabric tends to stretch and twist.

The fabrics for the front and back are cut from huge rolls. The fill is a soft poly that is sandwiched between the fabrics. The outer edging of the comforters are bound with a binding to secure the fabrics.

Then the comforter is quilted. Quilting further secures the fabrics and more importantly, stops the fill from gathering or clumping. Most kids bedding is then quilted randomly across the face of the comforter. But not Olive Kids! We use a technique called outline quilting. This means that the quilting follows the shapes of parts of the design on the comforter face. The quilting can outline a truck or a dinosaur or any other icon. This takes tremendous skill by the person quilting the comforter.
