Olympic Stories
Olympic "Stories"
Chicago native filmmaker Steve James, director of "Hoop Dreams", "Stevie", and many other great films and documentaries, was hired by the Chicago Olympic Committee to direct this short film to help keep Chicago in the running for the 2016 Olympic Games. It's pretty cool. The athletes are all real people. I like the boxer the best. Also, check out this link for an interview with the director Steve James: http://video.nbc5.com/player/?id=103447

Thanks for the massive compilation of all things Olympic! I just dropped my friends off for lunch at Benny's in Ann Arbor, and it was the busiest I've ever seen -- probably because it was mentioned in the media as Michael Phelps' breakfast restaurant while he was training. Just another example of the impact of the Olympics on everyone.

Congratulations on Lens of the Day!
Picking a favorite event is difficult. I wish that they would show all of the various sports on TV and broadcast the efforts of the athletes from all countries. It seems that in the past the emphasis was more international. Now it's all about the US teams.
I love the way you covered all aspects of the Olympic medals. You really know how to put a lens together.
great lens. good thanks for sharing that info. very useful. :)

Beijing Olympics 2008
The Games of the XXIX Olympiad were held in Beijing August 8, 2008 with the opening ceremony taking place at 8 p.m. (08-08-08-08 - the number 8 is associated with prosperity in Chinese culture).
On 13 July 2001 at the 112th IOC Session in Moscow, Beijing was elected the Host City for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad in 2008. The vote followed in line with the recommendation of the IOC Evaluation Commission that "a Beijing Games would leave a unique legacy to China and to sports. The Commission is confident that Beijing could organise an excellent Games".
