This lens is meant to introduce you to the wonderful world of Omega 3 Fatty Acids and the many benefits of adding them to your diet.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

I am sure most of you have heard how great Omega 3 Fatty Acids are for you and your body. If you have not heard, these Omega 3 Fatty Acids may sound unappetizing, but in fact they are one of the best things that you can eat to improve your health. These fatty acids are especially good for Americans. You may be thinking what is this guy talking about, but its true. Americans tend to eat less Omega 3s than many of the healthiest people in the world. Mainly because the fatty acids are found in fish, nuts, grains, and vegetables. These are not popular items in the average American diet. Even if you do eat these items occasionally, supplementing your diet with Omega 3s can still increase your health and even happiness.

People who are familiar with Omega 3 Supplements might have an idea of all the different products out there. The most common source of Omega 3s is fish oil. Of course some sources are more expensive than others, but that does not mean the more expensive sources are better. Per a recent Best Life article, Mark Moyad, MD, of the University of Michigan Medical Center notes that "overpriced salmon and cod liver supplements offer no greater health benefit." He also notes that "the omega-3 supplements we use in clinical studies are made from sardines and anchovies - the cheap stuff." His favorites include whole-body fish oil pills (as opposed to cod liver oil).

Benefits of Adding Omega 3 Fatty Acids To Your Diet

Many researchers think that Omega 3s benefit your whole body. Some of the benefits that are being studied include the ability to reduce inflammation, reduce blood clots, nourish the brain (the brain has a large concentration of these fatty acids), and even relieve dry eye.

Doctors have used them as part of treatment for heart disease, autism, ADD and ADHD.

I don't eat much fish, so I only use olive oil when I cook. It's a bit expensive, but I'm allergic to soy, and not sure I like the idea of using canola oil. 5 stars
