What to do first when you find out you're pregnant

Ranked #481 in Parenting & Kids, #15,648 overall

A light look at what to do in those first few minutes...

OMG! You're pregnant! Now what?

Learning you're going to be a mom or dad can be an experience which ranges from anticipated to a complete surprise. No matter which category you fall into here, the fact remains you have some work to do! There's the telling part: family, friends, your boss. There's the learning part: what to expect and when. There's the buying part: a crib is just the beginning.

This lens was built for and is dedicated to Kate and Elvis, who after much anticipation had Grace, who is now already four!

OMG! How do I tell people I'm pregnant?

Sure, they make it look easy on TV, but it's not quite that simple.

Top Ten Things to Do When You Find Out You're Pregnant

A fun little list I made up. ;)
  1. Stare at the stick for an hour and contemplate accusing your husband of doctoring it with a marker so he can get a day off.
  2. Call your best friend sixteen times, finally reaching her while she's shopping for fire ant bait at the local hardware store. Tell her she's going to be an aunt and let THAT sink in... (Can you tell I was shocked? As was the rest of the gardening aisle...)
  3. Call your dad and tell him he's going to be a grandfather. Act disgusted when he asks what breed it is and what you're going to name it.
  4. Collect all the baby books you got for Christmas. Sit on the living room floor, reading them and getting a head start on that pint of ice cream.
  5. Calculate the due date and decide to rebook your annual spring cruise.
  6. Start making lists of baby names you like and family names you feel obligated to keep.
  7. Go garage sale-ing for comfy clothes and cute baby accessories. Pick paint colors for nursery and make mental lists of cribs you like at Wal-Mart.
  8. Admire your profile in the mirror with varying degrees of pillow-pregnancy.
  9. Lug out the datebook and clear your schedule for all those prenatal visits.
  10. Cry. Then scream. Then cry some more. Then collapse in bed exhausted. Sleep well, you're going to need it. You're going to be a mommy!
