Oh, you have not lived until you have eaten rice produced by this rice cooker:
    a Puertorican mom.

I have had a cheapo Salton rice cooker for over 10 yrs, it is my favorite kitchen appliance, and has been very reliable. I never have to worry about burnt rice in the bottom.

I see from the Amzon reviews that everyone who has rated the rice cooker I own seems to have experienced the same poor results... good to know there are better rice cookers out there.

My current rice cooker overcooks the rice on the bottom third of the pan and makes the rice mushier than we like it. Think I might try out a different brand when the one we ahve wears out. Sure is a lot easier than the pot cooking method. To keep the steam water from splattering all over, I will sometimes cover the pot with a towel while it cooks. For making my own sushi rice or spicy rice dish where the consistency and texture of the rice is crucial, I still cook to spec carefully over the stove.

Never really saw a need for a rice cooker. Maybe I should reconsider. We'll see. Merry Christmas.
