Poetic Thoughts on the Written Word

I hope you enjoy this exploration of the written word through original poetry!

The "written" word is now expressed by many electronically
Keyboarded or penned, whichever you're tied to chronically
Though computers have advantages like checking the spelling
The curls from ones' handwriting are far more telling

The Ink Flows

The ink flows like indigo juice
Released from the channels of the sluice
Making these subtle human marks
Upon a sheet of whitened pulp and barks
Saying nothing until understood
By human minds both wise and good

Words are the Atoms

Words are the atoms of expression
Juxtaposed one way or another
They elicit a reaction or impression
To enlighten and not to smother

Take your pick of poetry or prose
Just different ways of combination
Choose words to elate or be morose
Mix them up into a new perturbation

Black on White

Black on white these marks I write
Initial thoughts before I type
To hold this pen in fingers tight
I'd not forgo this tactile swipe

The feel, intrinsically important
For process of a writer's thought
Ink flowing on the blank extant
Frees iambic lines by mind wrought

So whether with ink or graphite lead
My modern quill be-stills my head

History of Paper

Sun dried papyrus pulp
Was used way back when
A bird's quill and plant dye
Was early man's pen
Today the modern paper mill
Takes pulverized wood
To create all kinds of paper
Of quality very good

Pens and Pencils

When I put a pen to pad
The written words should stick
For if the wording turns out bad
I'm stuck with what I picked

But should instead a pencil's lead
Be what creates the written mark
Eraser's rub takes back what's said
To let me voice a new remark

If There's Money In It

If there's money in it, that would be swell
Then maybe we'd buy a grand hotel
For now, I'll write and write and write
From morning crow to last of light

Don't Look at Me as Silly

Don't look at me as silly
Don't look at me as daft
As if I were a loony tune
That can't tell fore from aft

I hope to keep improving
And steady gain a wider flock
Just some approval would be nice
As I write around the clock
