Awards and Prizes in the field of Oncology (Cancer)
Ranked #16,926 in Education, #364,030 overall | Donates to A Day of Hope
Originally, I had a lens that was just going to focus on the bigger scientific awards. With the exceptions of a handful of "biggies" that I have listed below, there is no definitive list of major scientific awards. I didn't realize what a massive project I had set out for myself.
Once the first lens got humongous, it occurred to me that it made more sense to create a different lens for each sub-section of science. This is one of those lenses.

The lectureship is intended to give recognition to an outstanding scientist who has made meritorious contributions to the field of cancer research and who has, through leadership or by example, furthered the advancement of minority investigators in cancer research.
- AACR-Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation Award
- The AACR and the Richard and Hinda Rosenthal Foundation established this Award in 1977 to recognize research that has made, or promises to soon make, a notable contribution to improved clinical care in the field of cancer. In its desire to honor and provide incentive to investigators relatively early in their careers, the Foundation has stipulated that recipients not be more than 50 years of age at the time the Award is received. The Award is also restricted to individuals who are engaged in the practice of medicine and who reside in the Americas.

- The AACR-Women in Cancer Research-Charlotte Friend Memorial Lectureship was established in 1998 in honor of renowned virologist and discoverer of the Friend virus, Dr. Charlotte Friend, for her pioneering research on viruses, cell differentiation, and cancer. The lecture is intended to give recognition to an outstanding female or male scientist who has made meritorious contributions to the field of cancer research and who has, through leadership or by example, furthered the advancement of women in science.
- Oliver R. Grace Award for Distinguished Service in Advancing Cancer Research
- The Institute's Oliver R. Grace Award for Distinguished Service in Advancing Cancer Research recognizes the contributions of dedicated laypersons whose leadership has had a significant impact on cancer research. The award is named in memory of Oliver R. Grace, the founding chairman of the Cancer Research Institute, who died in 1992.

- Pezcoller Foundation-AACR International Award for Cancer Research
- The prestigious Pezcoller Foundation-AACR International Award for Cancer Research was established in 1997 to annually recognize a scientist who has made a major scientific discovery in basic cancer research OR who has made significant contributions to translational cancer research who continues to be active in cancer research and has a record of recent, noteworthy publications; and whose ongoing work holds promise for continued substantive contributions to progress in the field of cancer.
The Award consists of an unrestricted grant of 75,000 Euros and a commemorative plaque. - Hope Funds for Cancer Research
- The mission of the Hope Funds for Cancer Research is to encourage investigation of innovative cancer treatment and detection for the most difficult-to-treat and understudied cancers. The Hope Funds for Cancer Research will support scientific and medical research programs aimed at increasing knowledge relating to both cancer care and prevention. We will support programs we believe have the highest probability of success in addressing unmet medical needs, which we will determine by rigorous scientific and economic analysis.

Defunct Cancer Research Awards
If a significant award is not on the above list, I probably haven't gotten around to adding it. However, it could be that it is no longer offered.
