Getting Fit & Losing Weight

Positive in my Progress

For some reason certain ages give us a kick that it's either now or never so at 39 I decedid that I wanted to be 'Fit For Fourty', so, I started on my pathway to fitness, it took me about four months to do but every day I felt more envigorated and it just kept getting better and betterI lost over two stone and went from a size 14 to a between a size 6 and 8. I loved training, adored it, but, never had the figure that was my ideal, even when I got down to a size 8 (not sure what that would be in the US)!!!

The Begining

One step at a time.

Little stepsI met my new partner he too loved all things fitness and had done all his life, but when we started living together, training stopped and loved upness began. The thing is that the loved upness didn't stop, and still hasn't, but the size 6 has receded back and realising my new clothes were no longer fitting AT ALL I decided to go back into training. So got the picture of the body I wanted in my mind, even off pulled one off the internet so I would have something to properly aim for and off I set.

Get Motivated

When you know you want something but you don't know how, start slowly motivating yourself towards it.

Trying To Figure It All Out

How Come He Can, and I Can't?

We Need To Think This ThroughWeek 1 gave up, kept looking in the mirror size 8 never mind 6 was still far into the future. Then I became totally fed up and very down and dismal on myself about how I had sunk back into not training again. Told myself and my partner I would restart next week, then, next week came I would start then give up, same old reason.

Looking in the mirror seeing the spare tyre just made me so despondent. It did not help matters that I became jealousy of my partner's ability to lose weight in the blink of an eye, and to me it did not seem fair.

My partner has always been into weights, martial arts etc., since the age of . . . . I think it must have been birth. Now, the only way I can describe his ability to tone much quicker is a) he actually gets up and does something and b) his body is so used to training the muscles have retained memory and they seem to rejoice everytime he restarts, even though, unlike myself his lapses never last more than 4 weeks.

Give Yourself Time to relax

Getting fit is not just about cardio and weights it is also about relaxation and becoming supple. One thing that I know I CAN do no matter how I feel is to relax and stretch with some yoga. It is a great interim for training, it is also a great way to start focusing your mind.

Getting Back My Mojo

Look How Far You Have TravelledI put on even more weight and recently I have been trying to figure out where my mojo for training has gone and why I am so hell bent on avoiding it at all cost. I am not happy with my figure or the fact that if I eat I feel guilty. Then like a club round my head I realised what I was doing and through some blogging hope to help anyone else who is going through the same or a similar problem as, I think I have found the answer to getting my mojo back!

We Fall Into Two Groups

Forward and Backwards

A Happy Brain = A Happy NeuronNow if we look at the first group of people, I think most of us at some time will fall into this trap. We get half of our programming right ie the goal setting, looking for pictures of bodies we would like to have and having an aim, then we totally destroy any chance of this by constantly trying to reach the end goal and feel like a failure when we don't, which then makes us become half hearted until we finally give up.

Whereas, the second group of people are those that also get the pictures, realise where they want to get to and note where they were when they started. What they then do is way more productive as instead of the "I will never get there, I will never get there, this is too hard, this is taking too long" message, after a couple of weeks they just look back and notice how far they have come in their progress, and rejoice that even if it is only a small amount the message to the brain has been put into motion and IT'S WORKING. When they look back, it is obvious that they have made progress - even if it is just a little progress. So their brains are being given the go ahead with the message

"its working, its working, I'm getting fitter, I'm getting slimmer, its great, it's wonderful, look at my progress, I'm getting fitter, slimmer, faster, stronger" once again ad infinitum - once again the brain tells those neurons what the message is and zap, they get right on it!

One Giant Leap For Successful People Kind

(I may have just made up a 'kind' there, hey ho)

You Were Always A Success You Just Never Told Yourself You WereThe problem that I encountered, and have since recognised, is that I did not stop to celebrate my success. Instead I kept looking at where I was and where I wanted to go and felt a sense of disappointment when I should have been celebrating my progress of how far I had travelled.

So for anyone and everyone who is trying to do anything. Learn to measure your progress from where you started. If you measure your progress any other way - you will always feel deflated and despondent. You ARE making progress. Make sure you celebrate even the smallest success. Even if you are trying to make go of a new business venture celebrate anything even down to just one person looking at your site/shop/etc. If you are on a weight losing journey celebrate the small things ie giving up sugar in coffee, an ounce of weight loss anything and everything. If you will just do this one small thing, you will notice that more success will come to you faster.

I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

The Power Of Negative Auto-Suggestion

Good Little NeuronsLooking through an abs building site it dawned on me that there are two groups of people. The first gauges their progress against how near they are to attaining some kind of an ideal goal. The second group measures their progress from the place where they started.

Measuring your progress against an ideal is like trying to travel to the horizon. You can never get there because no matter how much you move toward it, the horizon will always be a long distance off, as it was with me, no matter how fit or slim I became it was never enough, so my goal always seemed to be an equal distance away from where I was when I started. Then when the weight came back on I made matters worse as I was so busy being jealous of other people's fit bodies and telling myself constanty that I was fat, not as good as them and always would be that way that guess what auto-suggested message was staying in my head.

"I'm staying fat, I'm staying fat, I'll never get there I am staying fat" ad infinitum

AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED! My brain was being told what to do and where to stay and it just fired those neurons into obeying my commands!

oooooooh, I'm still working on it, after back injury. It's really slow, but visualizing my energy level following this weight loss, from a fresh food dietary change, is helping.

I knew what to do. I knew what worked for me. But, like you said, I needed my mojo back. So I subscribed to a woman's fitness magazine and promised myself I would do whatever exercise routine the magazine was promoting that month, even if it was not for me. In other words, I took myself and my attitude that I knew what was best out of the equation. It did not take the full year. I learned some things too.
