One of a Kind Painted Christmas Ornaments

Ranked #8,197 in Arts & Design, #143,681 overall

For Christmas or just to hang for decoration

One of a kind hand painted Christmas ornaments are a favorite thing for me to make during the Holidays. I have made hundreds in the past 30 years, from personal ones to general Xmas scenes.

My first ornament was an old silver ornament that lost it's luster, so I painted it...as it turned out someone saw it and wanted to buy it from me. I then brought them along to art's and craft shows and have had sales in many U.S. states including other parts of the world.

How my bulb ornaments are painted

and ideas for personalizing

1. I buy ornaments without a design on them
2. Clean any oil or dirt that might impair painting.
3. Any acrylic paint will do, you can even use the sparkle paint if it's what you want.
4. Start out with a pencil drawing, or trace the pattern/image on the ornament.
5. Dark colors come first and I add the next lighter color, till I get to the highlights
6. Finishing off with an acrylic glaze, mat, semi gloss or sheen, whatever affect you like
7. I like to add either a satin ribbon, or string that is gold or silver
8. If it's a dog, cat or horse and sleigh, I like adding a small Jingle bell on the string or ribbon.
9. You can also add special Rub-on type for personalizing
10. I have added charms that go with the motive and it creates an extra interest
11. Personalizing with an image makes it special, I add a great deal of details
12. I have also used Cardboard and decoupage on some of the ornaments, then sealed with a glaze or crackle

You are SO talented, and so prolific. I work slowly, because I, too, do a lot of detail, & so I don't get a lot of items done. Wish I could figure out how to speed up & still keep quality. Thank you for such a beautiful lens, and for sharing your expertise. Best wishes.

Oh, they're BEAUTIFUL! I have decorated ornaments in the past as well -but nothing even remotely close to your gorgeous designs!

I really appreciate the video on how to make the roses - I have attempted those with minimal (but OK) results. Now I have a resource on how to do it thanks to you!

Merry Christmas you talented thing you! :) Kath

These are simply stunning. I've been collecting ornaments for about 10 years now and you've inspired me to try to paint some of my own. I'm not nearly the artist you are, but I'm anxious now to give it a try.
